Default Starman & Blue Thunder...? Any reviews?

I was hoping to pick both of theses titles up today as they were supposedly released, But after calling Best Buy, Shopko, Target, Wal-Mart, Fred Meyer and Borders, NO ONE had them! Has anyone seen these and if so, were they worth the purchase? Or were they delayed like The last Starfighter? Would really appreciate any info. Thanks in advance guys!

they were released today-- it's just that the stores that you mention are so unpredictable as to what they choose to stock.......

http://www.thehdroom.com/news/Starma...ay_Review/5506
http://www.hometheaterforum.com/prod...lu-ray/reviews (Gave video a 5/5)
http://www.dvdtown.com/reviews/blu-ray-starman/7192/2
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1168907

Not sure how good or bad these are, but overall they all say that the video is at least a 4/5 if not higher and that the audio is around a 3.5/5 because it does well, but not as good as it could apparently.

I am pleased that it looks really good as I will be picking it up soon when it comes down in price just a little bit

Hope this helps,
CJS

Picked up Blue Thunder on Blu-ray this evening at Best Buy, haven't had time to watch it, but I recommend the film to anyone. It really was an underrated film that didn't rely on CGI like most of the films these days. Real helicopters chasing each other in downtown Los Angeles, with even the director surprised they got away with what they did.

Looks like some of the Netflix hubs didn't get them either. Both were skipped in my queue of which they were the priority. You never know with catalog titles and that is why I stopped going in the morning to some local stores on release day if I wanted to make a purchase.

Both are solid titles on Blu-ray. "Starman" looks great but for those hoping for special features, it's a barebones release. "Blue Thunder" is also quite solid and the special features definitely give you a perspective of how they created the film and how a film like it can't be filmed the same way anymore post-9/11.

But of the 80's and 90's releases from Sony that came out on 8/11 (along with "St. Elmo's Fire", "About Last Night..." and "Go"), you can't go wrong with those two titles.

We all got screwed on Starman. There has been a Region 2 Special Edition DVD (from Sony, no less) available for seven years which contains a John Carpenter/Jeff Bridges audio commentary, a "making of" featurette, the trailer, and a terrifying, makes-you-want-to-stab-your-ears-out "music video" of Allen and Bridges singing Dream, Dream, Dream.

Yet no special edition of any kind in region 1/A ever. I don't know what Sony USA has against this movie.

A shame about Starman , the two Carpenter blu's I have("Halloween" and "Assault On Precinct 13") got it all. great PQ,sound and extras! PS, "Ghosts Of Mars"(also a Sony Blu) has extras, So it's anybody guess what they will do to "Christine" when that makes it's blu debut!

IMHO, it looks like the Starman video transfer is mediocre.

It looked quite good to me. What aspect of it was disappointing?

Starman actually looks pretty good. Is this another transfer you are complaining about without having actually seen it? You seem to do a lot of that...

I understand that the Starman transfer preserved the grain structure of the original film quite well, so I'm sure there will be quite a few people who complain that it doesn't look as good as a Pixar movie.

I'm just reading the so-called "professional" reviews. Then, again, blu-ray.com review on 'Universal Soldier: The Return' was totally flawed and wrong (since the PQ is great), so I trust you, people.

So, your previous post was not "IMHO," right? Best not to mislead people.

Oh, and can you link us to those "professional" reviews that state the transfer is "mediocre?" Thanks.
