BBY's are having a hard time keeping the 10a's and 300's in stock since these new pricepoints.
Further evidence to me that whenever they want, they can end this thing with HDDVD. But for now, they are remaining profitable...which is a good thing. |

It will be even tougher to get with the promotion going on right now. You will get 10 free movies with 10A.

I am new to this forum, but I have been reading up on all developments here for the past several months. I just purchased a Sony BDP-S300 at my local Best Buy (Philadelphia) today, based mostly upon what I have read in this forum (so thank you). As I was purchasing the player, I noticed that BB had absolutely no stock left of any Blu-ray players (except for one of the LG model), yet they had at least ten Toshiba HD DVD players sitting around collecting dust, even with a $100 price drop on the HD-A2 (they had it on sale for $299). Upon further consideration of what I saw, I have no doubt that I made the right choice in going blu. ![]() |

Same problem here. I have been ready to buy the 10a since it was announced in May, but can't find it anywhere. My local BB had a display model, but is out of stock state-wide. Circuit City isn't even carrying it yet. They had it available for pre-order on their web site for 1-2 days and then switched it back to "coming soon". Amazon is expecting stock in 4-6 weeks.
Argh... frustrating. I know people are interested in the 10a because of the potential for 10 free movies. But at this point I am considering going Sony S300. I'd still get my 5 free movies from the Bluraysavings.com rebate, and because the S300 is $100 less than the 10a, well, I can just buy the movies with the savings I get. But that begs the question... S300 or BD10A? Which is a better player? I've heard load time complaints with the S300. Any thoughts? |

What the hell is wrong with them? If this thing is in such high demand why don't they just flood the market with them already. Don't tell me a company as big as Panasonic doesn't have the manufacturing capability to that.

They didnt expect demand to be this high. Keith Jack (who works for Sigma Designs) said that Blu-Ray CE Companys underestimated the demand for stand alones and they sold out of their allocations 3-4 months early. Looks like they still are underestimating it!

Well, I broke down and used my 20% off for July 4 coupon @ Circuit City and bought the Sony S300. Got it for $440 after tax (TN = 9.25%... ouch). Didn't want the coup to go to waste.
When I talked to my manager friend @ CC he said they are not expecting the BD10A's "anytime soon... possibly weeks" due to inventory issues, but acknowledged there might be regional availability. Since he's a friend, he's gonna keep an eye out for me and call me if it shows up. In the meantime, I get to enjoy the S300. If and when the BD10A shows up, I'll put it on the bedroom TV. ![]() |

Reading the various threads related to this player over at AVM$ it seems like Panasonic has dropped the ball big time as far as supply goes. From the shallow release schedule to player availability I believe the BDA is not too concerned about winning the format war. This is very disheartening.
