Default Does anybody else despise these over the top action movies?

You know the ones with way too much slow motion wire work and CGI. Poor character driven story and bad plot development, particularly the ones that use the name alone as the selling point. Like Transformers, GI Joe. Usually the PG-13 ones you have to look out for. Just wait until we get "Hula-Hoop" and Hot Wheels". If thats what you're into then thats cool. Everybody likes different things, it's nothing personal I apoligize. I was just interested in seeing the ratio. becasue these movie make so much. And I always get asked if I've seen them. But I dont get asked if I've seen things like Monster's Ball or The Wrestler you know? I just don't want great human emotion movies to fade out. As it is we only get like 2 or 3 a year in theatres I feel. If next year for example Wolverine were to win best picture I'd be very disappointed with society in general. I don't mean to come off real hateful, ha. Sorry again.

Nope, I enjoy them. I don't expect a movie to change my life, I just want to be entertained.

Actually, now that you mentioned it. Hot Wheels might be a pretty sweet movie. Sorry, there is nothing wrong with a brainless popcorn flick. I do agree that there are probably too many now, but they have always existed.

As long as the movie entertains me or moves me or scares me before it's over, it's good enough for me. My collection should be evidence enough of that.

If you think you hate GI JOE, Terminator Salvation and Transformers 2 now, wait til you see District 9. It was made for a fraction of those other movies' budget and is about a thousand times better than all of them.

LOL i mentioned that in another thread:

I wanna see "Hot Wheels".

Could be a mix of "Cars" + "The Fast & The Furious".

+ look at the merchandising angle.

I like a good strong, compelling, makes you think story in a movie...but sometimes I enjoy some mindless "transformers" type action movie.

Not for everyone, so if it's not your cup of tea, let the rest of us who enjoy this flavor enjoy it for what it is.

I think it's people who go in expecting good acting, strong character development and a griping story that end up hating these movies.

In a stress-filled world, brainless, mind-numbing action is a nice relief.

Personally? Hate them.

Doesn't mean I don't think they should be made, though.

Thumbs up

That's the entire point of over-the-top action movies.........so I'm not sure what your point is.

It's like going into a movie called Everytin' Getz Blow'd Up blindly, thinking that's it's going to be some coming of age, tear-jerking drama.

C'mon buddy. When you embrace: Huge robot dudes blowing things up, Chow Yun Fat running through a hospital having a gunfight all while holding a baby, Keanu Reeves in leather doing really slow karate & saving the world, Sylvester Stallone killing about 3,000 people in 90 min..........then you will be enlightened my son.

90% of Hollywood films today (especially the action ones) are crapola and a waste of life.
