Default General firmware questions (specifically, Samsung)

I just bought a Samsung BD-P3600 player and one of the first things I did out of the box was update the firmware via USB. Through no fault of my own, this bricked the unit and I had to swap it out for a new one.

My questions are, how often is firmware released, and how often do f/w upgrades fix problems other than disc compatibility? I have a slight lip-sync issue that I'm not sure if its caused by the player, disc, or TV or any combination of these, but I'm afraid to try the update again for fear of having to pack it up again, and might hold out until I simply have a disc that won't play. Would a firmware update even fix a lip sych problem?

Thanks!

Thanks, but I was looking for a useful resource, which is why I came to this board and not Samsung customer service.

I'll tell you one thing, Samsung's customer support (BD player firmware) is pathetic. I am posting regarding my personal experience with the BD 1400. The Samsung support staff is NOT: helpfull, knowledgable, nor caring. Other than that, they are awesome!

In general, Internet firmware upgrades have so far worked well for me. But I have no specific experience with Samsung.

I had a sammy 1600 a while back and did a firmware 2 times that I can remember, but I did it via an eithernet cable. I personally didn't have any issues. Other then the laser being a dud for me. I then switched to the PS3 and never looked back.
