Default PS3 Slim DOES Bitstream HD Audio!

PS3 Slim DOES Bitstream HD Audio!

http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/200...firmware_3_00/

Quote:
One feature was previously announced: compatibility with Sony's Bravia Link technology. When enabled, this allows your PS3 to interact with certain Bravia televisions and be controlled by the television's remote.

But there's another added feature exclusively for PS3 slim owners. The new model will allow for Dolby True HD and DTS HD Master Audio bit stream output.

Both of these features are achieved at the hardware level, Sony says, explaining why current model owners are out of luck.
ORIGINAL POST:

It makes no difference to me (I'm on the other side--PCM 5.1/7.1 is really the same thing), but some folks prefer bitstreaming Dolby TrueHD & DTS-HD Master Audio to be decoded by their AV receivers.

It's been said that the PS3 can't bitstream because its hardware was locked in before HDMI 1.3 came out; but the time to fix that is when new hardware comes out...as in the PS3 Slim. It's been announced that the Slim will support Bravia Sync (aka HDMI-CEC), another HDMI 1.3 feature. Does this mean the Slim will bitstream TrueHD & DTS-HD MA over HDMI 1.3 connections as well, or not?

According to this....it seems to be the same as the current PS3. The current PS3 charts/specs said it could output the HD Audio, but it didn't mention about bitstreaming them which we know it can't. I guess we will see.

If the slim PS3 can bitstream Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA to my receiver, then I am returning my S350 and buying the new slim PS3!!

This might be the reason why it doesn't have it.

Yes, but it could be capable of doing more. Bitstreaming is not a big deal to me though.

No. i was just thinking maby sony didn't add bitstream, even though they have the right chipset now, is because people will start buying PS3's and not SA players. wont make other members of the BDA to happy. just a wild guess.

I seriously have no idea why people bother to ask this question. There's no earthly reason for Sony to add HD audio bitstreaming to the PS3. It plays BD's just fine, and only a vanishingly tiny minority of PS3 owners know or care about HQ audio, let alone know what bitstreaming is, or have a receiver that can do it.

If you want to bitstream your Blu-ray audio to your receiver, buy a standalone BD player, not a game console.

There's no difference, but people would love to have the option to bitstream.

NOw IM second guessing I was under the impression that the ps3 was as good or even better then the standalone 350.My main reason going to the ps3 was because it acted as both a player and a game console really great. If im going to sacrafice audio just to have a game console maybe I should re think this.

i dont have much room for both a BD player and a PS3, if my ps3 can do it, that would be awesome. i have one currently, but if i could buy a ps3 that could bitstream for 299 and takes up less power than my current model AND takes up less space? i would purchase it in a heartbeat.

its not as bad as you think.

you can still listen to TrueHD and DTSMA ... it just streams as LPCM. while it sounds almost identical (incredible would be a better way to phrase it) bitstreaming lets the receiver do the decoding, which to audiophiles, means a world of difference. the average joe couldnt tell a difference. plus you would need a 500+ receiver to even HEAR these codecs. your purchase of a ps3 system would still be the best investment anyone could make at this point.

You're not sacrificing anything. The PS3 decodes the HD audio bitstream into the exact same PCM signal that a standalone will.

As long as you have the HDMI connection to handle the 5.1/7.1 audio PCM signal, it is bit-for-bit identical to whatever your receiver would be doing.

Then why is everyone making a big deal about bitstream

Nevermind I read the post above.Again this is my first sony product Im hearing reviews about how the slim edition always have problems.Should I just go pick up a regular one.I mean the design was not the thing that made me jump it was the price.
