Default Samsung BD-P1000 Firmware

Can anyone give me some advice please.
I live in the UK & have a Samsung BD-P1000 player.
If I update the firmware with the US update listed on the Samsung site will it make my player Region A & therefore make my Region B disks unplayable.

Alternatively I have read that the original Samsung firmware was region free is it possible to load older firmware & if so is there a download available anywhere?

Any help would be appreciated

Sorry, can't really help. However, I must tell you that the original firmware gave the player a very bad name, had a massive image filtering etc. so it may not be the way you really want to go.
