United Kingdom Snow White &The Seven Dwarfs Diamond Edition 2nd November 2009 Website Now Up!!

Why do we in the UK have to wait until November 2nd almost a month after the US release date of the Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs to see this much loved classic?

Disney has a rather nice website to plug the forthcoming Blu Ray release with neat three dimensional graphics check it out here : http://adisney.go.com/disneyvideos/a...lms/snowwhite/

I'm really looking forward to seeing the wonders wrought by Disneys' technical arm on this classic movie I love it!

Disney in the UK is a little behind with things.

SW, Bolt, UP and perhaps one or two others were or are released way after the US counterparts.

Bolt and Up were released in cinemas ages after the US though, which explains the blu releases being later. Up isn't even out over here yet.

Snow White though - I'm surprised its so long a wait. I recall Pinocchio and Sleeping Beauty were a little behind, but definitely not as long as a month.

Its date -November 2 - seems a crazy date to release with the films scheduled to hit the format that day....

The Wizard of Oz
Forrest Gump
Braveheart
Clone Wars: Season One

All huge releases.

Yes , it really pisses me off that the British arm of The Walt Disney Company cannot get it's finger out to release Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - without which there would have been no Disney Studios - at the same date October 6th 2009 throughout the world - in Europe France and Germany it's October 6th 2009 as in the USA!

That link is for the US release though. You got my hopes up there, I was hoping Disney had launched a dedicated official mini-site for the UK release.

Rubbish Disney UK haven't even issued a press release yet AFAIK, so no official confirmation of the UK specs or the release date. Although they list it as coming out on October 26th on their UK "DVD" site here. It even mentions BD-Live there, it'll be the first non-American BD-Live title from Disney/BV if it is!

Where'd you get the November 2nd date btw?

I got the date by telephoning Disney Stores UK Head Office , and they telephoned me back with the 2nd November for the Blu Ray release date.

I later confirmed this on the Amazon/HMV/Play.com sites all of which tally with the 2nd November for the Blu Ray release and November 9th for the DVD release date!

I was going exclusively region B for all my movies for a number of reasons. My USA PS3 is a hairdryer, Disney have just pushed the balance towards staying multi region alongside Paramount with their Sapphire series.

With the PS3 slim, I can easily buy a region A and get it shipped from Canada no problem, it is as quiet as a mouse. So thats what I'm going to do, buy a slim and stay multi region. Because frankly, I can't be arsed with the attitude of companies. Its like Disney is taking a month off or something, absolutely ridiculous.

I don't think Disney UK have a clue tbh.

They told you November for the UK DVD and BD release.

One of their own UK websites has it down for an October 26th release.

The Disney Store in the Westfield, London had it down as coming out in October AND November on their release list.

So there you go!

Artwork for the Blu-Ray is now up on amazon.co.uk.

It looks like we're getting (my preference) Snow White as the centrepiece, like the US DVD version.

Further to my post above, I don't really understand why Disney are region coding their animated classics if they're being released all around the world roughly at the same time?

They're not doing this with their catalogue Pixar releases, so I see no reason why Snow White should not be coded for all regions??

Frustrations aside, we should be getting it the same week - except we're not for no apparent reason.

Could Disney UK explain:

a) why we have to wait a month after the US, and the rest of Europe's major territories.

b) why the catalogue releases are indeed region coded over here and in the US - which is at odds with the Pixar catalogue policy

and most importantly...

c) who made the decision to release the title on the same day as Wizard of Oz, Forrest Gump, Braveheart, Clone Wars and Public Enemies. That first week of October has nothing coming out of note.

Pathetic. Makes me really mad as there's no logic to it.

The entire Disney UK release policy is a joke as it is.
We've had to wait 4 months for Up to come out. We're still 2 months out, and the US get it on blu-ray weeks after we have it in theatres.

Worse still we're being made to wait until February 2010 for 'The Princess and the Frog' which the US get in November in time for Christmas.
Disney's massive comeback hand-drawn animated feature - and its been pushed into the February half-term slot.

The February half term slot, aka "optimum time for a children's movie". It's why Up is being held until the October half term here, to give it even more chance to clean up, so it's not competing with Harry Potter, Transformers and the like.

Personally, I don't see the big problem with having to wait for a release, if the wait is so short. A month is not much in the grand scheme of things.

Well, they could release Beauty and the Beast 3D in that February half term slot, as it is, will Beauty and the Beast even get a wide release in the UK?

I totally agree with all the points listed above why not contact Disney UK and protest? Contact their Home Entertainment offices!

I was rather peeved that the UK BD releases of Pinocchio and Sleeping Beauty were missing the original mono audio tracks, which were included on the Region A release. Is there any news if Disney UK are going to be bothered to include it for the UK Snow White? I hate it when companies only include tampered soundtracks on their releases, and Disney Uk seem to be terrible for this.

On a slipght tangent, regarding Pinocchio, I always get foreign subtitles popping up on the bonus features, that I can't turn off for some reason. The player actually lists the subs as 'off' but they're there. Does anybody else get this problem? I'm using a PS3.
