Okay I know we are only a little more than half way through the year, but based on what is already out, and the movies we know are coming before the end of 2009, what film will win the Oscar for best picture?????

This might be a longshot, but I think Nine has the most going for it in terms of the Best Picture Oscar this year. Avatar and Amelia also look the most oscar worthy.
Up is the only current release so far I can see as a probable choice. |

I am thinking:
1) Avatar: an oscar award for best cinematogrphy. 2011: 2) Shutter Island: About time Leo wins an oscar (maybe best supporting actor) 3) Inception: I am sure the category doesn't exist (Best Mind Boggling movie) 4) Shrek 4 VS. Toy Story 3: this time around Shrek should get an oscar for best animated film. Last edited by Lord_Stewie; 08-25-2009 at 02:01 PM. |

To be the only to actually answer the OP.
With the 10 nominations it's a wider field but I think it boils down: Invictus, The Lovely Bones, Avatar, Nine. With outside chances for The Hurt Locker, Up in the Air, and Precious. Avatar is a definite question mark past all of its tech categories. From too far to call territory having not seen any of these films from my previous Oscar predicting experience, current early Oscar buzz and the type of films out there I see it as the 3 way Lovely Bones, Nine, Invictus battle. Sadly Shutter Island will not be in the running this year otherwise it would be right in the mix. |

or Star Trek or, Terminator 4 or up, or GI Joe, or Jennifers Body, or Friday 13th, or Wolverine.
All of these have a great chance of winning best picture as well as Tr 2. Sorry, read the thread title wrong. Thought you said razzie. ![]() |

Sadly since they're expanding the nominations field, that IS possible. Throw District 9 in there, everybody loves a movie about why we're all bad people and need to improve.

Since you wrote movies not seen yet but on potential alone, my vote would probably be Peter Jacksons Lovely Bones. I think there's been some Oscar buzz for a while with that film.
