Will CD backlash hurt BD? - Blu-ray Forum

With the backlash against Sony and the call by many to 100% boycott anything related to Sony because of the "rootkit" technology Sony used for its digital rights management of their audio CDs will this hurt BD's chances? That is, will people truly boycott all things Sony and thus BD too?

I highly doubt it. Besides, BD is dozens more companies than just Sony.

As n2blu already said, there's plenty of other companies that will make BD players/recorders for those few that feel that they need to boycott Sony. When it comes to the PS3 I doubt that anyone will care much about this if it's the best next-generation console out there

I think that it will make a difference. Especially with people who want to use that Managed Copy thing - after all, that is pretty much what the rootkit was.

But I don't think it will make any much difference to gamers (PS3) or STB HDTV users. Just the iPoders.

Doesn't BD now support managed copy and that's why Warners signed up?

Was that the reason why Warner joined?
I didn't see any annoucements about changes to the specification...

I thought I read it in an interview with a Warner rep...
