Default Freeing up a PS3 account slot?

Hey, question. I'm getting a Slim and selling my old PS3. I'm pretty sure that with my friends I'm at the maximum number of consoles for my downloaded game content. What do I have to do before giving the PS3 to the buyer to free up a slot so that I can just login with the same account on my new Slim? Some people say you have to log in to the account you want to delete downloaded content / username info on and others say you don't. I don't want to just hit triangle on my name and hit delete if that's not going to do the job. Does that makes sense, guys?

Okay, so I do need to sign in to that PSN account first, and then deactivate it, then delete the username. I just wanted to make sure. From what I understood, just deleting the username would not deactivate a console from being one of the five you are allowed, so I guess that is true. Thank you for the information.

after you go into account management , and deactivate ps3 (be sure to do this for each account you have on the ps3) just format the ps3 so that everything is back to like it was coming out of the box

Thanks again, I really appreciate the info, guys. The forums over here have proven to me once again that they're the best. I almost posted this question over on the PSN forums, but then I realized it would probably be hours or even days before I got response. You guys are great.

If you have available system activation slots, you can do this. The OP was out of slots. The limit is 5 activated systems per account. If you have the luxury of having both active at the same time the safe route is to keep both active while you do your D/L and transferring.

and this is why i do not game share.

... sorry, didnt mean to troll. however if you are having trouble finding the "deactivate" button you should find it under "Account Management"

also be sure to disable any PSP systems you might have set up for remote play.
