Cool Electronic Arts Endorses Stereoscopic 3D Gaming, NFS SHIFT Senior Art Director Joins!

Hello everyone!

I'm guessing this qualifies as a Blu-Ray Games thread because it goes for PS3 as well as the other solutions

As you know, there has been a lot of effort and energy around stereoscopic 3D movies in the home, but absolutely nothing in relation to S-3D gaming. A few weeks ago, an organization called the S-3D Gaming Alliance was formed to answer this need. They act as an education resource and standards body for S-3D gaming.

The exciting news is after their recent launch at SIGGRAPH 2009, Electronic Arts has endorsed and joined their effort! This is a big deal because it has been falsely assumed that game developers weren't interested in this stuff.

Here is the press release and related article:

This is good news. Thanks for sharing.

Here's to hoping the PS3 can get a firmware for steroscopic gaming and Blu-raying.

At quakecon they were showing this technology.. I was able to try it out..
Works better for third person perspective views over first person.. in first person it just messes with your senses as your mind thinks it should be able to see the objects pass by the sides of you.

Without the special clear glasses the screen appears extremely blurry, with the glasses on certain objects propel foward, menus get a very cool 3d effect, object hit that go flying are given depth as they fly across..

I think this technology is pretty cool.

Cool

Here is a link to Blitz Games Studios' trailer for Invincible Tiger: The Legend of Han Tao. This is a PS3 game that, when connected to a stereoscopic 3D HDTV or display, takes on a whole new life. The trailer itself is in stereoscopic 3D!

If you have no choice, you can play with anaglyph glasses (red/blue), but this should not reflect what modern S-3D solutions are capable of.
