Seven Samurai announced in Japan (no English subtitles) - Blu-ray Forum

Kurosawa's 'Seven Samurai' has been announced for Blu-ray release in Japan on October 23rd. Here's a link:

Sadly, of course, it will not have English subtitles. However, I hope this means that a release in the West will happen fairly soon.

My absolute favorite film of all time. Criterion seriously needs to get their rear in gear with the Kurosawa releases on blu. The Seven Samurai Criterion re-release is by far the best DVD in my collection. I hope it'll be the same for my blu collection.

Well they've at least made a start with 'Kagemusha', which I've just bought. They were also planning to release 'Ran', but ran (no pun intended) into a rights problem and had to cancel it. Anyway, I agree that 'Seven Samurai' should be high on their priority list for Blu-ray release.

Toho does this to all their releases, pretty much. I can imagine Shogo Tomiyama behind a desk giving orders to the Blu-Ray disc authors for their films and he screams; "NO ENGLISH!!!"
