Default Bass makes a loud 'thump' sound when turning off

I have a newbie question. When I turn my sound system off, sometimes my bass makes a loud 'thump' sound. Anyone have any suggestions?

My system consists of:
Sony STR-DG910 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver
Harman Kardon HKTS-18 5.1 Channel Speaker System with active bass
Panasonic 50" PZ700U plasma tv

Thanks for anyone that can offer a suggestion

Thanks. I guess I'll just live with it or buy a power switch for the sub. Wondering if I can program the power switch on my Harmony remote....

Does it happen when you turn stuff off in a particular order?

Try turning your receiver off first, then everything else.

Mine does it when I turn it on and in my case SVS said that is normal and that they (someday) may try to eliminate the thumb

I use a Harmony Remote and it turns everything off at about the same time. I may try plugging the active bass into a switch with a remote, but will see.

Have you tried turning the sub off first?

I had the same thing happening, but it's due to amplifier design. I found if i turn the power amp first, then the receiver it does not do it.

my bass turns off after it detects the receiver is turned off (I believe), but I can either get up and walk over to the bass to manually turn it off (nah) or I will explore getting a switch with a remote to turn it off via the harmony remote.

Anyone have any suggestions on switches available that can be IR or RF programmed?

My sub has a switch to either keep the sub on all the time or have it turn on when it detects bass from the receiver.

Okay I'll check mine out. I noticed it was fairly hot though when it had been on for several hours so not sure if it should stay on all the time?
