Default 3-D PS3 coming? looks like it

Surprised nobody has mentioned this yet. In the SONY 3D story on the front page here SONY says they are releasing in 2010, 3D capable Bravia tv sets along with vaio computers and PS3'S. So it looks like another version of PS3 is coming out and with 3D capabilities. Thoughts?

EDIT: here is link, https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=3351

I would hope it wouldn't be a new PS3 system but rather a firmware update.

I don't think they need new ps3 hardware, only a firmware update will do.

3D PS3 games? i dont know about all that, im perfectly happy with what they are doing now, kind of like motion control, if they want to have some games that support 3D, go for it, just not all games, i dont want to wear the 3D glasses while im playing

So you think it will only be a firmware update needed to make our PS3's capable of the 3D? I'm not so sure about that though. It was stated in the article like they would be releasing actual new PS3's. Here is article: https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=3351

Yeah but a couple month ago there was an article about a new codec for 3d that was only requiring a firmware update of the ps3. Plus, like some have said, sony already shown GT in 3d on a current ps3 so...

I can't see it taking off as long as you need special glasses.

I don't know about you guys but I'm about sick of all this 3D stuff! I mean who wants to wear 3D glasses for movies AND games? I'm perfectly fine with the way things are!

I would like it if it was really effective

I'd pay everyone in this thread $1 if it must be a hardware upgrade and not a firmware update to implement 3D - That's how confident I am it'll be firmware

EDIT: If I'm wrong though you all can forget about getting a buck out of me - life stinks don't it?

I anxiously await it. i dig 3D stuff.

At CES this year they had an existing TV hoooked to an existing Playstation running Wipeout HD. They gave people glasses, and people say jaws were dropping everywhere.

So yeah, I cant wait.

If you read the comments under the article, Nighthawk mentions that the HDMI v1.3 chipset isn't capable of two 1080p streams.

Quote:
As for the PS3 Slim's ability to output 2 streams of 1080p - it must have a HDMI 1.4 chipset - and the Slim has v1.3

From May 28:
"Another additional feature is support for two simultaneous 1080p streams for use in displaying 3D images. While no 3D Blu-ray spec has been approved at this time, the resulting spec will likely include the necessity for two 1080p video streams, and HDMI v1.4 will support it."
That would mean new hardware is on the way.

The article I read refered to the glasses as shuttered to improve viewing angle over polarized glasses. I wonder if they must be synced and would be bluetooth controled.

I do not want to be bothered with glasses and certainly would not be an early adopter.

Unlike the passive solutions described above, active shutter glasses literally block and unblock your view utilizing remotely activated LCD screens in the lenses. Here's how it works: Your HDTV sends a signal (via IR, Bluetooth, or other radio transmitters) to the glasses to sync them to the correct frame rate. The glasses - which are powered by rechargeable batteries - will send alternating electrical signals to each lens which activates an LCD screen in the lens, effectively blocking that eye's view of the screen.

...and/or a new TV 4 most. That new Kung-Fu game on PSN is the first 3D capable game. It was mentioned in the news a while back (I believe during CES 2009).

My next TV would be OLED if they released some 1080p displays of 26"+

If that supported 3D too, great. It would help justify the higher starting price.
