What a weak, lame offering.

Pass.

Looks pretty decent to me. Not sure if I like the flip-down front though.
I'm sure a lot of people will hate it because they can't let go of the past.

I see nothing wrong with it either. 2.0 Profile out the box, supports all HD Audio formats, SD Card support, what more could you ask?

Nothing is "wrong" per se....but I could ask for streaming, Wifi, "XDE" upconversion, you name it.

You also have to provide your own 1GB SD card.

Why get this for $249.99 in Nov. when right now I can get a P1600/BD370 right now for ~$200 that will soon stream, collectively, Youtube, Netflix, Blockbuster, Vudu, Cinemanow and Pandora.

I had to supply my own SD card with my Panny. Bad arguement.

Yet the Oppo costs 500 bucks, no muiltimedia streaming, no wifi, but where are the complaints? Plus I had to purchase a Flash Drive for my bdp-s350, again what more could you ask?

That why I said "also" after the other laundry list of things that would have made this better:

"...streaming, Wifi, "XDE" upconversion, you name it."

Toss in analog outs too.

This is a barebones player. The closest to this is the S360, which also has very little value added features.

There is nothing exciting about this player except that it says "TOSHIBA" on it.

Seriously?

OPPO is a specialty manufacturer, with a limited lineup of top quality products. You are paying for the quality.

The OPPO has superior upconversion. It also supports pretty much every disc besides HD DVD.

Streaming? Wifi? XDE upscaling?

I will never purchase a Toshiba store product again. After owning a DLP television in which the lamp burned out after 1 year then another they've lost me as a consumer.

Quite frankly I hope their entertainment line fails. They should stick to producing IC's

Yeah, it's barebones, but it's their first "announced" BD player. I'm sure that there will be another, more advanced player in the works.

I would hope. I was looking forward to what this player would offer. Turns out it offers nothing more (and plenty less) than what other players already do.

Now I will just go with a Samsung or LG since I need Netflix.

Missed chance by Toshiba I think. They could have knocked it out of the park with a special player, instead of this entry level on.

Since when were these features a prerequisite for any Blu Ray player? My player does one thing, and that one thing is Play Blu Ray movies with an excellent picture.

And I'm quite content with my player's ability to play SD DVDs.

They are MY prerequisite.

You asked "again what more could you ask?" and I answered...I could ask for streaming services...I could ask for Wifi.

I already have a PS3 for basic playback.

I have a Netflix account. I would like to have a player with Netflix. I thought TOSHIBA might include Netflix since other players do.

But it does not. Therefore, I am disappointed in what the player has to offer ME.

Then the Toshiba is not the player for you.

I don't play video games, I have a DVR that I use for Streaming Media, so the PS3 is not the player for me.

You set yourself up by calling the Toshiba a "Lame" player when the simple fact is, that there are a number of manufacturers continuing to push out 1.0 profile players onto the market, thus creating a possible issue with regards to new Blu ray discs which may require information from the web in order to run properly.

Like another posted already stated, this is Toshiba's first introductory product into the Blu Ray market, and if you ask me, the Basic functions such as full HD Audio Support, BD Live 2.0 Profile support, 1080p/24, and SD Drive support, on their FIRST player, hit the nail on the head if you ask me.

Um, I think you mean 1.1 profile players. At least I hope you do, unless you are trying to...nevermind.

There was a grace period for no longer releasing profile 1.0 players that has looooong expired. Please show me the "number of manufacturers" releasing profile 1.0 players in 2009.

Yes 1.1 Bonus View profile, my bad.

Magnavox and its variants, plus Sherwood I believe released a rather expensive player at a price point that one could argue was a bit steep.

That's a nicer looking player than any of the HD DVD players they ever released. Including the 3rd generation one.

I agree. I am happy to see Toshiba offering BD products.
