I don't remember too much and I am not sure about buying this one. Is this movie any good? I thought it was heavily criticized.. low rating etc.

Does the effects look dated now?

Help me out here..
I heard the AQ and PQ is great.

Get the first, brilliant film, excellent PQ and AQ. Avoid the sequels like your life depends on it.

First film is great fun to watch. Shame it is not like the book though. The sequels are fun if you like that sort of film (mindless rubbish).

hell no. In fact, it still looks just as good as recent films.

Great film. Be aware that your BD player will need to have an SD memory card inserted or the disk may not load. I think this is the only BD that was authored with this "issue."

A friend of mine keeps telling me that there is an uncut version.

not sure where he heard that from though lol. I imported it from the UK. Love the film! Saw it in the theatre in '97 and haven't turned back since.

If you don't care or don't want the commentaries and picture-in-picture track, then you can import the UK box set that has all three films from The Hut.UK for around $20 US.

I bought this version myself and it has all three films in one set with a "field manual" and artcards.

Hopefully you won't be disappointed! I loved it! A bit of "teenagy" humor makes it funny in addition to the military/political satire of the film. Special effects are very good - the "bug" animation is completely realistic. I made small user review in this site's movie listing for it, and gave PQ a 4.5/5 and AQ a 4.5/5.

I agree with that statment after I saw the second and third on blu-ray.

I brought the boxset because of the first film (never knew about the second film) and saw the trailer for the third and it made it look better then it was.

Luckly for me I pre ordered at the cheapest price. The boxset cost me £17.93 on day of release rather then the over £40 price tag it had when it got close to the day of release.

And the first print run of USA discs are missing 6 seconds from the middle of the film. The newer pressing (and international versions) do not have these issues.
