Love this oddball western by Sam Raimi and was considering buying it depending on whether it got good reviews. However DVD Verdict seems to think there is a gross overuse of grain on this transfer.
http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/quickdeadbd.php Grain isn't a bad thing, but too much of it certainly can be. I'll wait for other reviews to confirm, but this isn't a great sign ![]() |

I was horrified by the dvd verdict review!! This could/should look fantastic on blu-ray (westerns are always so bright and colorful with the
panoramic outdoor scenery) hopefully the reviewer was exaggerating on the excessive grain.... |

You either like the creative choice of the principal photography or you don’t. P.S. If Minority Report ever makes it to Blu-ray and is essentially transparent to the HD master (given excellent mastering and encoding), then I suggest you do not buy it. Creative choice by the filmmaker. ![]() |

I'd wager that this probably looks pretty good and the reviewer is one of those folks who hates when there is any grain present in the picture. And as long as the visible grain in the picture isn't due to using a late generation print far from the master (that is to say, the grain you see is from the master), visible grain shouldn't be a reason to stay away from a good film, especially a western of all genres. |

I got mine from Amazon yesterday, and watched it last night. There is a good amount of grain, but I think this is the directors intent. I found the picture quality to be quite good and nicely detailed. I didn't notice any edge enhancement or halos. The really nice suprise for me was the audio quality was awesome. A great movie to show off your surround system....
Keep in mind though, I am not someone who minds grain in the picture. It's not as noticeable as 300 or Blackhawk Down, but it's noticable enough. |

I have the UK Blu-ray (it looks and sounds great), and this is the uncut version with the sex scene in it. I know that the US DVD's are cut. Don't know about the Blu-ray though...

As for my brief review of the disc, I was pleasantly surprised w/ it. The so called excessive grain didn't bother me one bit and audio wise it was great. PQ = 3.5/5 AQ = 4/5 |
