I don't think studios region-lock BDs just for the fun of it or just to annoy us.

It's usually because their distribution rights are confined to particular territories rather than being world-wide.

For new films, it might also be for the same reason as for DVD's, i.e. to reflect the staggered theatrical release schedule across the world. But for back-catalog titles, distribution rights should be the only consideration.

man when I read the title to this thread I was thinking it was going to complain about the inconsistancies of fox's tv blu-ray releases. Why release Fringe and Lie to Me which are both new shows and not release your emmy show House on blu-ray!!!

I WANT MY HOUSE IN HD...

that is all.

and yes bruce is right about the distribution rights, thats why some titles were available in blu-ray in europe and not in america back when the blu-ray vs hd-dvd war was brewing.

House is produced by NBC, not Fox, so Fox has nothing to do with it's DVD release.

Its not as simple as that. Fox Television is the outlet for the shows but the shows are produced by other companies.

House is an NBC/Universal Production while Fringe is a Warner Brothers Production.

Lie to Me and Bones are produced by Fox directly.

So it would be up to NBC/Universal to release House on Blu-ray Disc not Fox.

I do not believe that Fox controls worldwide distribution rights for Wrong Turn, which might force them to region code it if the distribution contracts have certain clauses.

Correct. I know Warner Brothers controls it in certain areas, hence region coding.

How do you know that? There very well could be plans to release it at some point. And even if there weren't, the two companies probably already have an understanding not to release it region free to protect the other one.

i don't think it vhas anything to do with respect for another company. Because universal, warner, dreamworks all release region free. And one there movies also have to be released by another company but they are still region free
