Default Preorder beta/demo access codes Good or Bad?

Seems all the games are doing this but it kinda irks me a bit. I hate being tied down to a particular vendor to preorder a game from just to get early access to the beta/demo. I know eventually the demo goes public but your stuck waiting an extra week or two.

edit:
Hmmm I put a poll on this, looks like it didnt go through.

i think that some games need to do a beta, like MAG, because it does need extensive testing, but its not necessary for most games, and its mostly just a way to encourage people to buy other games, or buy qore subscriptions or whatever, just so they can play part of a new game before anyone else

Some games do need to go through a Beta, but most pre-order Betas are for publicity only. There's not enough time to get meaningful Beta testing results, and it certainly won't make it into the retail code. Plus, those aren't setup like true Beta tests, so little meaningful feedback is received.

I think game publishers do the pre-order / Beta code completely ass backwards. If they really want to get people to buy the game, they should just release access to everyone as early as possible.

Why give demo access to the people who will buy the game anyway? How does that increase sales for anyone but Gamestop?

I think its not the smartest of IDEAS as you pre order, you get the game demo and it might suck, what you do know is tell everybody it sucks and ditch your order.

On the other side if its a good demo, you'll tell everyone how much they NEEEEEEEEEEED this game.

I have no qualms with pre-order bonuses, but what does annoy me are the exclusive pre-order ones. Like, I think it's stupid that I can miss out on a chunk of the game just because I chose to buy the game from the retailer of my choice.

I dont like the idea of having a beta code for one game with the purchase of another. I dont mind it if its a demo code though.

I dont mind codes as pre-order bonuses either, since this is the most logical way to give out demo/beta codes.

And although I got burned by Qore for only buying the september episode, I understand that qore yearly subscribers are paying for this sort of opportunity, so its fair.
