Default help with new Sony XBR 42"

sorry for the newbie question.

Just got this TV a couple of weeks ago and I love it. It's hooked up to a PS3.

PQ is great, but I noticed when I turned it on today (while the movie was loading, before the picture came up) it displayed "720p" on the screen. As I said, PQ looks great already, but am I not actually getting the 1080p? Does it automatically switch to that, depending on the source, or is there something I need to switch? My tech savvy son looked on the onscreen display settings, but we couldn't find it there, or in the instruction manual.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance, Ben

Recheck your PS3 resolution output settings...make sure that 1080p is set, that could be your problem.

Hi there, what movie was it? Some blu rays don't have 1080, but it is rare. Go check your display settings on your ps3 too. Did you enable automatic or uncheck 1080p? Try some settings.

Also, are you using a reciever or amp? Could affect the settings too. Make sure you're using the proper hdmi cable too.
Good luck!
