Cool BD's you want but your country won't let you have?

what movies are you going to other countries to buy that haven't (or won't anytime soon) be released in your own?

me...

waiting for:

hostage
the island
independence day
mr. and mrs. smith

wanting to buy:

exorcism of emily rose

forgive me if im full of ignorant questions...but there's no transfer quality difference per different region releases is there? there's a master/standard right??? and do different releases contain different extra features? or is that too all the same?

redux, afaik, countries don't restrict title releases. it is the studios.

in theory, there could be a quality difference. the only reason i say this is that some areas need to have multiple audio tracks. by having to include these, the studios may have to recompress the video to fit the additional data. remember, this is only theory. in practice, i would believe that there would be no difference in video. however, i am not a compressionist or anything of that nature so all i can say is that theoretically it could be different.

An example for this is the Pirates release in Europe. They skipped some extra features to include more language tracks. Sometimes (like here in Switzerland) little distribution companies do their own encodes for DVDs ('Plaza Vista Home Entertainment' is one of them) and they will do so for BD as well (even though they are still debating on which format to choose and when). But I think generally, if a studio spends a lot of money on remastering and encoding they will recycle their work in other territories.
