Default 'Mad Men' fans, what other TV shows do you like ?

Title pretty much says it all , 'Mad Men' fans, what other TV shows do you like? I've never watched it and am trying to determine if this is a good blind buy for me . Apparently the blu-rays are pretty sweet.

So Mad Men fans, what other TV shows do you find entertaining and perhaps give a quick summary as to why you like the show.

thanks

I blind bought the first 2 seasons and liked them and am watching season 3 on regular TV now but didn't love it as much as the critics. It is very different than a lot of other shows. Oftentimes not a lot happens, and it is slow moving. I am 27 and don't think I would have liked the show when I was younger because it would have bored me.

Galactica is a great show that gets better with each passing episode and wraps up nicely. Dexter and Weeds are both unrealistic and slightly absurd but highly enjoyable.

Mad Men is probably my favourite show currently on the air. One of my all time favourites is Northern Exposure. Outside of some HBO miniseries, like Band of Brothers, some of my recent favourites include: Sopranos, Weeds, and The Tudors.

I think Mad Men is good because it gets it right on every level. It all starts with great writing; without it there’s little hope. From there it just gets better with solid direction, casting, pacing, and production values…and kick ass Blu-rays don’t hurt.

Edit: Oh ya, and Six Feet Under...

Damages is great drama and so is Mad Men. I am old enough to remember those years, and the show gets it all right. Men condescending to women, the clothing, the attitudes, the smoking and drinking, everything. It is very well written and I have enjoyed every episode. The characters and situations are complex and reveal themselves over time.

If you need everthing delivered all at once, this show may not be for you. If you like drama, and to watch things evolve, get it.

Dexter...Dexter Morgan is definitely the most interesting character on TV right now. The only one that comes remotely close to Dexter is Walter on Fringe. This show had the amazing ability to make a character who, at least for the first few episodes, fake all emotion completely empathetic.

The Shield...the acting was amazing here, but I'd say the best thing about this show was its ability to keep you rooting for what were basically just crooked cops. It was the best drama on TV during its seven seasons.

Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia...despite the over the top absurdity of this show, it reminds me a lot of Seinfeld when it was at its peak.

Fringe...feels like they joined the best elements of the X-Files and The Lone Gunmen.

The Sopranos
Curb Your Enthusiam
The Office
Six Feet Under
House M.D.
X-Files

I bought Band of Brothers like 3 months ago and have watched 2 shows so far, at some point I am gonna start from the beginning again and try to watch 5 episodes back to back to try and get interested in it.

Um...OK. A show about a guy living a double life and a show about a drug dealer housewife are more unrealistic than a show set in space.......??

I like Mad Men, because of the nostalgia and great writing, acting, etc., It's one of the few newer TV shows I like, the others are Weeds , Pushing Daisies(cancelled!) , and Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles(also bye-bye!)

the characters are so realistic and fleshed out that you like and dislikes things in all of them, just like regular humans.

Yep. At first (for a long time) he was a massive weasel, and still is to some degree. But a lot of bad things have happened to him and I think it's bringing him down to Earth a little bit. We'll see how he evolves... But his character adds a lot to the show.

The best part of Mad Men is what the characters don't say to each other but you can tell there is something there. It's amazing how the show captures that.

I really like the Peggy Olsen character. I have enjoyed watching her evolve from super timid to super confident.....which is contrasted by the diminishing confidence of Joan Hlloway. It's all excellent.
