Well, I was a mere moment away from purchasing the 60" 141FD Pioneer Elite but then I was talked out of it at the last minute. I don't REALLY need a new TV as yet.. the Hitachi I have now still works and looks great, but I would LOVE to own the best TV in the world as it is now selling out, and selling cheaper than I have ever seen it before. With a stand to hold it, plus all the crappy Ontario taxes, I could have it for $6100 CAD.
But then you know, I got told that there are OTHER things I could do with 6 grand including investing and such. So please people, tell me there will be something better coming out in the next few years so I won't feel too much regret for missing out on my last opportunity (before winning the lottery) to purchase a Kuro. Will Panasonic best Pioneer with their newly acquired patents? Will OLED reach bigger sizes and cheaper prices? Will 3D be the way to go in the future? Help! lol I miss it already... |

HAHA! If it were me I would get it, but there will be something better down the road for sure. I wouldn't be surprised if Pioneer didn't come back and cut out the internet sales to stay a float. Take that with a grain of salt of course!

Only you can really answer your question/s. The fact is that there will always be better and cheaper technologies down the road. Do you have the disposable funds to enjoy the best HDTV available now? Do you have the patience to wait for a better and cheaper HDTV? Some "soul-searching" is in order.
![]() As for me I'm going to pre-order that $799 84" OLED. ![]() |

it's like any technology really, you can wait and it will always be cheaper, and you can wait forever because something new will come out, if you want to the latest and greatest it will always cost a certain amount, that doesn't really change.
I felt "suffered" part of my blu-ray experience through my tiny 26" HDTV. It was less than ideal. I don't want to wait for OLED.. I can live with a little bulkiness and get that big TV now and stop waiting. That said, I don't know how much $6k is worth to you.. even if that is Canadian. I know alot of people won't want to spend that much in this economy.. How about a Panny plasma for a fraction of the price? Another example, 5 years ago you could buy something similar class to a Kuro and it was cutting edge, it costed thousands. Today you can hardly sell that 2004 720P plasma for $500. |

Ya, I hear you guys thanks for the input!
You're right FORCE, it IS something that I would get use out of EVERY day and in that respect, it would be a worthwhile purchase. However I'm only 26, and $6,000 in an RRSP could go a looong way before I retire. Just think of what TV I could get with the money then! lol But on the other hand... I wanna live now... who knows what I'll be like at 65 lol |

Taking these $6K and investing them, may or may not be a wise thing to do nowadays. - Do you have a car? If you don't, then maybe the $6K can be used elsewhere. - Do you plan on getting married soon? If yes, then now may be the best time to buy while you still can. ![]() - Are you married now? Then you pretty much are wasting yours and our time. ![]() - Do you plan on buying a home? How soon? If yes and soon, then maybe you should hold on to your money. - Any chance of zero interest/zero financing charges on the purchase? This was my approach and made it a lot more feasible. - Do you go to Starbucks and pay $4 twice a day for coffee? Do you buy $200 shoes? Can you afford it? If yes, then get the Kuro and perhaps change your buying habits. - Etc, etc. These are the types of questions you should ask yourself and then answer them. As long as buying the Kuro would not take the place of other crucial things, then I agree with Force - you're born, you go to school, you go to work and then you die! Get the Kuro and make it more bearable! ![]() Last edited by vega2K; 09-23-2009 at 03:08 PM. |
