Why would it be cut if it contains both versions?

Because Payback was cut at '18' in 1999 by the BBFC for a 5 second sequence involving a butterfly knife, which used to be a very sensitive subject for the BBFC even in movies with adult certificates. The "Director's Cut" of Payback (which also features this sequence) could not be assumed to be uncut because it exists due to the director's (Brian Helgeland) unhappiness with the style, tone and ending of the original 1999 release, which was controlled by the producers and Mel Gibson.

However, the UK disc has been confirmed to be uncut and the film content is exactly the same as the uncut US R-rated film.

Warner Brothers never locks their Blu-ray Discs releases. Even if they are imposing on someone else's distribution rights, they will not use region coding.

It's been a while since the last post on this thread. But could someone please confirm if this edition contains both versions of the film, the theatrical cut and the director's cut?
I know it says it does on the cover, but I have read otherwise. Thanks!

If you are referring to the reviews on Amazon, you do realise that you need to filter those to read the reviews pertaining to the relevant product, don't you? Amazon mixes all the reviews from multiple editions so the uninitiated can't tell their arse from their elbow.

I can confirm (because I have a copy) that it does indeed contain the original theatrical cut and the director's cut.

It does indeed. Annoyingly, the Theatrical, which I much prefer, has much worse picture quality than the Director's.

Gregg Henry (Just Before Dawn) is great in this.

Count me as someone who prefers the director's cut. The theatrical cut, to me, was always good but not great. The director's cut is b*llsier. The theatrical cut is kind of like the "Eddie Murphy Version".

Both played fine, but I like theatrical better. Not the same without KK. Who knew Lucy’s middle name was Alexis? The directors cut got rid of the blue tinge so it looks better.

I like both cuts, but I prefer the theatrical ; the director's cut still feels a tad compromised at the end, like it wanted a "downer" ending, but not too much of one. The theatrical cut has a more satisfying ending, while still managing to be brutal and somewhat bittersweet.

I bought this edition off Amazon recently and something that immediately stood out was that some of the text on the label is in Spanish.
Nothing else looks out of the ordinary with the disc itself--doesn't look like a burnt disc, rings look fine--and everything in regards to playback worked well, too.
[Show spoiler]

Still, I didn't see anyone else in this thread mention such a thing so a certain degree of concern remains. I haven't been able to find a picture of the disc online to compare, either.

Can ye not see the UK ratings logos on there? Warners were/are very fond of creating one disc to serve a lot of territories at once, not just pressing the same content with localised disc art (wait until you find a Warners disc with black and white art on it, then you'll really sketch out) but literally pressing one disc, art and all, to serve those markets which is why there's no large title text either as x movie will sometimes have different titles in different territories so it's easier to just leave it off! There is also ze German rating on there and a Dutch/Benelux (?) one too. Don't panic.

Your disc is correct. The Spanish text is just ratings info.

About the Director's cut PQ: is the 2017 Paramount version different, or the transfer is the same as the previous 2007/2009 discs?

Also, I gather the US disc has both standard and SDH eng subtitles, while the UK got only SDH, can anyone confirm?
