United Kingdom History (formerly known as The History Channel)

Hello guys,

First, thankyou to a moderator for giving me the okay to post this

My name is Rachael and I'm working with the UK version of History to help spread the word about their programmes online.

I'm working on plenty of things, such as the mighty Ice Road Truckers, and crime documentaries on History's sister channel, Crime & Investigation Network.

On tonight at 9pm is Ax Men. Are there any fans here?

There's a great clip from tonight's episode on the official Facebook Page here

Any comments/opinions? Are there any other series on History you're into?

Let me know!

Rachael

If anyone is a fan of Ice Road Truckers, there's an episode on History tomorrow at 9pm.

To get a look of what's coming up, check out this clip on Facebook. It shows the rivalry between two of the shows veterans, Hugh and Alex.

Does anyone have a favourite programme on History, or it's sister channels, Bio and Crime & Investigation Network?

Seems like all they show are 'Gangland' and prison lockup programs.

that's my beef. Plus all the "reality" shows. I mean once you've seen one episode of ice road truckers or deadliest catch, you've seen 'em all.

One of the newest series I have seen come up on History is "Clash of the Gods". I would definitely like to see more episodes.

Yep, Dirty Jobs is Discovery channel. I kind of agree there should be more history programs on the channel, no idea why a show like Pawn Stars is on a channel supposedly about history. I enjoyed their recent program on the JFK assassination though.

Edit: Deadliest Catch is also a Discovery channel program, although it is very similar in nature to Ice Road Truckers.

I thought it might be discovery.

A big ditto. That's why I find myself watching History International much more often than the other channel. I care nothing for Axmen or Ice Road Truckers. Love Deadliest Catch, Man Vs. Wild, and Survivorman on Discovery though.

Unless we're talking about Ice Road Truckers exploring a recently purchased Alaska or Pawn Stars during the California gold rush then I'm not interested.

You think they ever see the word "History" on their company letterhead and get the bright idea to produce shows about something historic?

However, the JFL show was great.

I love The History Channel (or History) and Modern Marvels, The Universe and many others are regular shows for me. I also like those mini-series type of shows like The PResidents, and The States. Both History and History International are programmed in as favorites in my remote.

I hve to agree though, the while I'm sure that Ax Men and Ice Road Truckers are good shows, I would prefer more content about, well... History.

Thumbs down

The only thing worth watching on that channel is a "Band of Brothers" marathon. Now that's History for ya.

Enough with the Reality shows, Spend the money and air more quality Shows about HISTORY.

And one more thing, get your Aspect Ratios correct, tired of the Stretch-O-Vision.

Well said, the channel has really gone downhill. I rarely watch it anymore.

I remember when history and discovery showed actual documentaries that weren't all "xtremed" out and over produced like mtv shows.

Have you noticed how pussified the nature shows have become, whether it's Discovery, National Geographic, Animal Planet, or the History Channel?

We used to watch lions and hyenas rip the limbs off of Gazelles and Wilda Beast, Nile Crocodiles catching Zebras and displaying the infamous Death Roll.

Who's the smuck that decided this was too gory for Broadcast Television?

I watched a couple of seasons of Ice Road Truckers but I could have stopped at the first. I almost never watch the History Channel anymore. Do we really need a reality show for everything?

The only thing left is Rake Jockeys, where a bunch of middle-aged men try to keep up with the leaves on their lawn. Add some tension by having them try to beat the collection truck since if they miss it, the leaves will blow back over the lawn, where they'll face a scolding from their town counsil for failure to clean up.

Edit: Oh yeah, what's with shortening the name? Is History doing it because National Geographic is now Nat Geo? Do we need to abbreviate everything? History Channel, stop trying to be cool and be yourself.
