Default will Terminator salvation's DvD and Blu sales save the franchise?

McG told press not too long ago that he is making T5 BUT dvd and blu-ray sales must go well..because the movie did not have the success in theaters as they wished they had

The fact that McG publicly attached his name to the next film will probably kill the franchise.

maybe, I think it was competing against some pretty big blockbusters at the time. Can't quite remember.

The future of the Terminator franchise is very uncertain. While there are contracts for the future movies the owner of the franchise is bankrupt so it is possible that the franchise will be sold and the new owner could decide they don't like the direction Salvation went and decide to do their own reboot or go a different direction than McG planned on.

That's a matter of opinion. I hated the show. And I agree it was partly responsible for Salvation's box office.

If they want to save interest in Terminator then the BD/DVD Director's Cut needs to be a radically improved movie. That's not usually the case but it's possible.

The show was way better than the movie, it had flaws too, but if they wanted to preserve this franchise they should have kept it around at least until they saw the reaction to the movie.

Thumbs down

When Cameron left, Terminator fell so low, it will never recover. T1 & T2 remain the best of this franchise.

I'm sorry, but I just don't get the continuing praise T2 gets after all these years. Sure it was a top hi-tech film for its time, the story was actually pretty good, but to me the film hasn't aged all that well. Plus the fact that Edward Furlong can get pretty annoying after a while.

This may ruffle soem feathers here, but as far as an action movie goes, I prefer T3 more. I haven't seen T4 yet, so I don't know how that wil compare.

Uh... Are you talking about the TV show? And if so, when did Cameron leave? That's not the way I remember it at all.

I hope DVD/blu-ray sales can save it. I'm obviously in the minority here, but I loved Terminator Salvation and I can't wait to get it on blu-ray.

US: $125+ mil
Foreign: $245+ mil

It underperformed in the US considering the budget and T3's total, but I think $370+ mil worldwide isn't a terrible number. This probably would have done better in a different month. It opened against Night at the Museum 2, and was competing with still fresh in theaters Star Trek, Angels and Demons, and Wolverine. Up opened a week later.

I don't think sales will be astronomical on this one - for some reason they aren't releasing this till Dec. It was one of the first summer movies released and one of the last ones out for the holidays.

A HORRIBLE marketing decision. Everyone will be gobbling up those other great summer movies and may have buyer's fatigue by the time this movie comes out.

Of course, those who love the movie or those who want a cool new demo disc for sound will buy this - but releasing it this late will definitely cut down on impulse buys and/or simply being lost in all the blockbuster releases for the holidays.
