Default Question regarding my Onkyo TXSR806 receiver setup

Hello all...

I am new to this website and I did some search and it is overwhelming what you can find (nice to see so many people write in here though). So please forgive me if this was discussed before and I didn't find it
Anyway, I had a friend do the setup of all my audio and video equipment and it was working fine until now (and he doesn't live close anymore so unfortunately I am on my own). Whenever I used to play a blu-ray movie my Onkyo receiver would just switch to the selected audio automatically. e.g. if I selected 7.1 dts hd in the movie, it would be displayed on the Onkyo display. Now it only shows 'all channel stereo' or whatever you manually select. It won't switch and display to the audio format that I select in the movie. Any suggestion on what settings I need to change to get this to work they way it used to?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Nicole

Not 100% on this but thought I'd post just in case I am correct, and since there isn't a response yet. I think you need to have your blu-ray player bitstream audio to the receiver. I have a Sony-S350 blu-ray player and I believe I had to set the audio to direct in the setup if I remember right. What player do you have?

Thank you for your replies. The Bluray player is a Panasonic DMPBD35. I did check the setup as suggested and it seems like it is set to bitstream.

It sounds like a certain listening mode was accidentally changed. You could simply try to recycle through them to hear what sounds like what you previosuly had.

Hi Forsberg, thank you. I did switch through all the different audio settings on the receiver and they do change, but it still doesn't show what format I select in the movie. It shows Cinema THX for example but not what the movie is actually set to. The receiver used to just change and display to what ever I selected in the movie setup, regardless to what it was set to before. I hope this makes sense somehow...

I'll try my luck with this question. In the audio setup menu there should be preferred sets that you can make. Two "pages" if I'm not mistaken. On the second "page" are the setting for HD audio. Make sure those are both set to MasterHD and TrueHD. Also like it was said before make sure your player is set to output bitstream audio. You have the same BD player as I do, but I have the Onkyo 606.
