Default Finally! A friend with Blu-ray

I have had Blu-ray for almost 3 years now and I love it. My best friend Sara came walking in the door today to watch Monday Night Football and announced that the week before she bought a Slim PS3, Call of Duty 4, and pre-ordered Modern Warfare 2 and Snow White. I was in shock but this is so great! She said she is loving it and she raided my collection on things to watch.

Anyway I know this is a pointless post but I'm thrilled to have a friend with Blu-ray capabilities.

Somebody tell me about if you had somebody you knew who could play the same games and watch Blu-ray

I think this is a great thread! None of my friends have Blu-ray! My closest friend was home over the summer and his parents bought a BD player. He came over to my house and raided my collection and I introduced him to a few he had never heard of, namely 'Baraka'; needless to say he was blown away.

Another friend of mine recently bought himself a Samsung 47" LED and he refuses to make the jump to blu. He says they're not much better than the DVD!

As for other people... I think BD will reach the rest of the consumer market very soon. 'Star Trek' will definitely help with that!

I don't know anyone who owns Blu-rays but my sister is trying to get her husband to go along with buying a PS3. They come over a couple times a month to watch Blu-rays at my place and are always impressed

obriensg1, you lucky sod. The only other person I know with BD is my father and he only buys opera. Not my cup of tea but they do sound bloody fantastic through his system. Hoping that now a friend bought a PS3, he might start collecting, but no joy there either.

lol, must be my location but most of my friends all have blu ray. Hell the guys at my local used pawn shop that I go to all get first dibs because 1/2 the workers there buy blu's.

I'm glad none of my friend's have Blu-ray. I hate lending stuff, and don't like being put on the spot and having to say no.

I've had friends of friends ask to borrow DVDs and CDs before. Just said, sorry I don't lend DVDs. i'd never get them back. I hate lending CDs, books and movies, every now and then there is someone you have to hound to return your stuff. I also never ask to borrow movies, I have a Blockbuster card.

i agree - none of my friends have blu ray, they say its too expensive, i sound like a baller when i non chalantly tell them i collect them, "yeahhhh i have around 400 i think,"

you see the jaws drop.

i have some movie nights during the week where 10 or so people will come and watch pirates of the carribean trilogy, or when a new movie drops like haunting in connecticut, ect.

its kinda cool having the exclusivity as i do.

my brother down the hall also has a big tv, and collects some blu rays but its one of those "lending" situations, him and his gf would come in my room and snag true blood season 1, or band of brothers, and i wasn't cool with that.... AT all.

so i bought a lock and now he rents them from me

i was like dude....i bought band of brothers for 55$, your just going to take it in there and watch it for free? pshhh. call it selfish, call it what you want, but i dont pay all that money just for people to freeload off my stash. but thats another story for another thread

lol

I know how that is... I barely know anyone with the same interests as me anyway.
But in general there are barely any people in my direct environment that even consider.
Well, sóme in my family are into tech-stuff, but they probably aren't even convinced that BD is so much better.
They are just some of those people that will automatically go along with the general consumer.
So once there aren't any DVD-things to buy anymore, they'll buy BD anyway.
It's just, they're not looking for it as much, I really dug into this thing like
"OK, what's this new format, I should get on board so I can use it too." .

And it's all also a bit more expensive around here in Europe still.
On top of that, I'm a rather young guy, and most of my handful of friends of about the same age
don't have much extra money to pump into hobbies like this anyway.
Just like me, only I'm much more of a film..."fan" or whatever, than most people I know.

I don't have any friends with blu-rays either, and only one of my friends has a PS3. But it's fun being being able to show off my blu's on my setup and see how impressed everyone is.

I don't have any friends or acquaintances that own a standalone player (altho my nephew has a PS3 mainly for gaming), which is probably not surprising, given that standalones still loosely fall into the category of niche products.

I only have one friend who has Blu-ray and over the past few months her Blu-ray collections stands at 3 movies. LOL! Most people I know just don't understand how much better they look than DVD which is why none of them have invested in it. A lot of them also don't have HDTVs or if they do they're smaller TVs and really don't show how dramatically good Blu-rays can look. Blu-ray prices are actually quite reasonable most of the time these days, I think if everyone knew how much better they looked they'd dump DVD and only be buying Blu-ray versions of their movies.

Yeah, you should know where they live if you lend anything, and know them well enough too.
Cause, you know, otherwise you'll just risk losing something you paid for...
Like I can now borrow a DVD-box from someone, but he's family, so... :P
In return I'm going some work on his own Demo-CDs though.

Reminds me... he's coming over today and I should remind him to bring the box. lol

I really wonder, he loves 'Alien' (that's in the box), if he'd care enough to get it on BD too.
I'm sure he'd be amazed...

Have a couple friends who are into Blu. Thankfully neither one of them are close enough to where I live to borrow my movies. And in the few times they do ask, I always conveniently forget.

My gf (LeAnn) bought a BDP a month ago from BB when it was $100. She prefers to watch movies at my house because I have a bigger TV.
