I always prefer games to have real time cutscenes just like how Resident Evil 5 was. I was disapointed that Uncharted 1 used pre-recorded video. The main drawbacks are potential compression artifacts and my worst game pet peeve, bonus costumes not showing up in cutscenes.
From when I heard Uncharted 2 was announced, I really hoped ND would make it FULL real time. I got the game today and it's an incredible experience but it still uses pre-recorded scenes. You can actually see a lot of artifacts (snow scenes) due to them using a low bit rate. Oh well, it doesn't break the experience but I would of liked to watched the cutscenes in my bonus costumes. I'm a bit surprised that ND didn't use a really high video bit rate to make up for the pre-recorded video sequences. They've talked a lot about the BD's disc size so I would've thought they would use up that space, 50gb need it be. I would like to discuss this in gaming forums but most people there have no clue what I'm talking about. |
