Default Why are The Muppets Doing Commercials for Disney?

I'm a bit confused...why are Jim Henson's Muppets doing TV commercials for Disney? I mean it is for a great cause - do a day of community service and get free admittance into a Disney park - but why didn't they use Mickey and the gang? Does the Disney empire own the Muppets as well? If so, then I demand they bring back Fraggle Rock!!

I believe Disney bought Henson's Muppets in '04.

Uhhhmmmm...

Guys- Disney all together owns the muppets now. They have ever since Kermit's 40th anniversary- and Disney released the newer DVDs.

There's even some muppets "mobile lab" attraction at Disneyworld! And they're working on a new movie: "The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made!" based on an old story from Henson himself!

Not only do they have the Mobile Lab, but there's also the MuppetVision 4D attraction, which is one of the biggest attractions at both the California Adventure and Hollywood Studios parks.

Disney is trying to get the Muppets popular again because JASON SEGAL IS WRITING THE NEW MUPPETS FILM. Amazing <3

Not to mention "Muppetvision 3-D" at the Studios and DCA, considered to be the farewell appearance of the "true" Muppets, with one of the last times Jim voiced Kermit, the last time Richard Hunt worked with the group, and dating back to the time Frank Oz still played his own characters.

Eisner's last official act in office was to finally realize his thirteen-year obsession with getting the Muppets under the Disney banner...Even if the Iger administration still hasn't figured out what the heck to do with them yet.

But, as Disney was pushing their "Volunteer for free park day" promotion, and the only thing most of us remember the post-Eisner Muppets for was their ABC guest shot on "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition", you take your corporate synergy where you can get it...
At least it's not another danged TV-movie.

Perhaps Disney bought the rights to Jim Henson's muppets.

Cool, an R-rated Muppet movie where Kermit shows his tadpole.
