The man is a LEGEND, congratz son
![]() Rhythm Magazine out of the UK took a poll of its readers for the 50 greatest drummers of all time. As Mike said here: "When I saw the October 2009 issue of UK's Rhythm Magazine with the '50 Greatest Drummers of All Time' reader's poll on the cover, I must admit I was curious to open it up and see if I had made the Top 50... Well, after quickly scanning through the 40's, 30's and 20's and not seeing my name, I was beginning to sadden that perhaps I didn't make the cut.... : ( But then I read on and was surprised to eventually find myself all the way at the top of the list at #5! Thank you to all the drummers that voted me into such a prestigious poll.... I am truly flattered and honored to be held in such high regard with some of my greatest drumming heroes! Thanks for all the love, : ) Mike Portnoy" The Top 5 were: 1. John Bonham 2. Buddy Rich 3. Keith Moon 4. Neil Peart 5. Mike Portnoy ![]() |

For what it's worth, Ringo Starr is overrated in rankopedia. I love The Beatles, but Ringo isn't the 4th greatest drummer of all-time. Not even close. |

Ringo was basically just a metronome with a mop top. The only song that immediately comes to mind in which he showed any sort of ability was I Feel Fine. He was reluctant to ever do a drum solo, but was finally convinced to do one on The End, since it was the last song The Beatles were recording, and they figured they'd all do a solo on it. I think that solo pretty much explains why he didn't want to do one. Edit: Here are some videos if anyone wants to see what I'm talking about.... I Feel Fine The End (drum solo from 0:19 - 0:35) --- 16 seconds of some toms over steady 8ths on the bass? No way! Last edited by toef; 10-15-2009 at 05:11 AM. |

That song, and Moon's job on Who Are You are probably my two favorite songs to listen to in terms of drums. |

I love Ringo mostly because I think he is the least egotistical of the fab four and sung 2 of my favorite Beatles songs ever (With a Little Help From My Friends and Octopus' Garden) but I laughed so hard at that line. One of the funniest things I've read on a message board in a while. So well put.

Mike Portnoy is a legend. I know that word gets thrown around lots, but when you watch him play he makes everything look completely effortless, quite a feat when you consider the nature of DT songs!
My signed Portnoy stick just went up in value ![]() |

the fact the list doesn't have Inferno of the band Behemoth ... or ... Brann Dailor of Mastodon is a joke in itself.
