Very difficult to find cheap Blus in NYC - no Walmarts or Targets close by. Your best bet is Best Buy. J&R also, but only when there are sales, speaking of which they haven't had one in a long time.
I assume you're coming from out of country? |

I remember the time when NYC was the best place to buy movies (I'm talking VHS and Laserdisc era) World's Largest Video store was lots of fun and I remeber how excited I was when it expanded.
The Virgin store was terrific in the late '90s, but it's being replaced by Forever 21...a discount clothing store. Freakin' sad. |

JR has a series of storefronts along a block across from City Hall Park. Each store front has a particular specialty including computers, a/v (tvs and audio sound systems), home electronics (vacuums, blenders etc), CDs/DVDs/Blu, musical instruments, and photography equipment.
Check out jr.com for more info. |

Kim's video is an NY classic. Used to be located on St. Marks, but recently relocated to 1st Ave between 7th and 8th Street.
They have a bunch of harder to find stuff and they also sell stuff in advance(3-4weeks). Enjoy NY. |

You guys should check out Entertainment Outlet on 44th between 5th & 6th. Great place for new/used DVDs, blus, and video games. This place also has a good habit of releasing stuff early. For instance, night of the creeps, on standard or blu...$19.99.

Just a heads up for all the NY'ers here. I purchased the 4 disc Blu-ray of 'UP' from Kim's yesterday - looks amazing.

J&R has a fantastic selection, but the prices just aren't that good. The cheapest Blu-Ray I've bought there was Lethal Weapon a few weeks ago, for like $16, which online shopping since has shown me I could have paid a lot less for it elsewhere.
This is nothing new though. I've been shopping at J&R for close to a decade now (granted it was mostly summers up until I finished school in 2005) and DVDs and CDs have always also been overpriced unless you're getting a new release on sale. They are still somewhat my go to place, my office is only about 6 or 7 blocks away from them so they are the most easily accessable site for my in-person shopping, but I'd consider it more of a cool place to visit than a cool place to score some great prices on blu-rays if I were coming to NYC. Kim's I love. Haven't been there in forever. I was able to get to the one in the Village that closed not to long ago as they were going out of business. Got a few DVDs from there for real cheap. And I miss the Virgin on 14th street. If only because it was the best place to kill time ever while waiting for a movie to start at the Regal right there. |
