Home Theatre Question - Blu-ray Forum

Hi guys, last and final question I have regadring purchasing a new home theatre system. I use my PS3 60GB model as my Blu-Ray player on top of the gaming of course. My only question is, if I purchase a new home theare unit (for the record i am eying the Denon DHT590BA model home theatre unit on sale at BestBuy this week) do I also need a "better" stand alone Blu-Ray player as well? I wouldn't think so being that the home theatre receiver will decode the TRUHD and DTS etc. sounds right? Please let me know before I go out and purchase the Denon unit. Thanks guys!

Using a PS3 means that the PS3 does the decoding (unless it's a slim). So with the Denon unit, you'll be fine, and will indeed get HD audio. With the decoders built into the receiver though, if you ever decide to get a different player, your options are pretty much endless, because you can bitstream all audio to the receiver.

As it is though, the Denon will serve you well. It is an audio repeater, so it will accept the PS3 audio as PCM. Buy it and enjoy.

It's the player that you need to worry about doing any bitstreaming....

You'll get all of the codecs with the PS3 and that model Denon, so no worries there.

Im not sure how the denon blu ray player performs. But I used to use my PS3 as my primary blu ray player untuill I started comparing the same movies on my LGBH200 and the LG picture was at least 20% better than my PS3's picture much sharper and a more vivid picture.
