Default Boondock Saints I

I just saw that "The Boondock Saints" and "Beetlejuice" at BB website we under $14. I am getting "Beetlejuice" but having only seen "Boondock Saints" once is it worth getting it on Blu or should I wait for a later version?

That's what the review said. I'll hold off. Thanks.

If you can get it for under $10 then I say go for it, otherwise, I'd pass. The PQ is pretty bad, but I love the movie, so I'm keeping my copy.

I thought the BS disc was great personally. What was wrong with it?

I found nothing particularly "bad" about the Boondock Saints blu-ray.

If you check the aggregate scores, it's mostly 7's and 8's out of 10.

I've skimmed a few of the more negative reviews, and the problem I have is that they are criticizing the actual look of the film, as opposed to the quality of the transfer. These are two separate things, and I feel the reviewers out there should focus more on scoring the accuracy of the transfer, not the film's aesthetic.

Some of the lower numbers are a bit misleading in this way.

I thought the disc looked much better than the reviewers were giving it credit for. It was a fairly low budget film so I don't think a better transfer is ever coming down the pipeline.

Agreed.

The original release (I've seen both VHS and DVD) was not a crystal clear endeavor. It was inexpensive to make and does not have the PQ muscle of releases by big budget Hollywood companies. If you're expecting ridiculous levels of clarity - you're barking up the wrong tree.

That said, there's nothing wrong with the release itself and I feel it was a good improvement over previous releases. Don't bother waiting for a re-release of some kind (unless you really, REALLY want to wait for BD2 to be released which will surely get released in a 2-pack with the original with the possibility of extras about the original... your call).

Just plan on waiting for a few years...

Glad to hear everyone opinion. It is true that if the movie wasn't that great in PQ when it was first released then I can understand it not being great when it is transferred to Blu. If I can find it fairly cheap then I'll grab it. Can't wait for BDSII.

When was this? Feel free to PM me so we don't have to use spoilers for everything.

this. i was wary when purchasing this movie because of some reviews but i am pleased with my purchase. its worth it just for the AQ imo. the PQ is definitely acceptable for blu-ray imo.

I saw it in limited release in theaters and I have had both releases on dvd, the PQ has alway been sub par from the very beginning. Probably shot on really cheap film or something.

Was a blind buy for me, watched half of it and wished I was blind. What an awful, amateurish movie. Sold it on ebay.

Hello I'm new here but does anyone have any idea why my Boondock Saints Bluray wont go past the screen asking Play Theatrical Version or Play Director's Cut.

Every time I choose one it just comes right back and asks me again.

Thanks for you time .

I just purchased and watched Boondock Saints on Blu. I thought it looked pretty good. It was much better than my old DVD version. The sound was much improved too. Remember, this was a pretty low budget film that bombed at the box office but had a huge cult following on video.
I am happy I double dipped on this movie.
