Default has anyone here seen Halloween 3 season of the witch?

I just saw this movie the other night and couldn't stop thinking "what does this have to do with the other Halloween movies?"
I was just wondering if anyone knows why they had the 3rd one have that story?

Ok here's what happened. John Carpenter never intended to make a sequel to the original, but massive demand and what Carpenter refers to as "the biggest check I'd ever seen in my life" swayed him otherwise. So along came Halloween II. Carpenter wanted to kill Michael Myers forever so that's why they
[Show spoiler]burned him at the end.

The idea after that was to create a new Halloween "themed" movie every few years, each having a new Halloween holiday story. When Halloween III reached theaters, fans were outraged at the Myers-less sequel, leaving future writers no choice but to return to the original story line.

I personally did not like Season of the Witch when I first saw it, just because I was such a fan of the Myers story line. The film should have just been called simply "Season of the Witch" and I think it would have had a more positive response.

Having said that, Halloween III has really grown in populatity of the years, and some might say it's drawn a small cult following. I really enjoy it now and try to watch it every year.

Carpenter couldn't see how they could extend the story of Michael Myers any more. He really wasn't crazy about making the second one. But a third one was wanted, so Carpenter came up with the concept of using the Halloween name to release a new horror story every year. Originally Joe Dante was set to direct Halloween III, and the great Nigel Kneale (creator/writer of the various QUATERMASS movies and tv series) wrote the script (but later took his name off it).

Halloween III wasn't a big hit and there was a backlash, so the idea of a new horror story set around Halloween every year under the Halloween brand was scuttled.

I still have a soft spot for #III myself.

I actually enjoyed it. I mean if they hadnt given it the "Halloween" title, it probably would of been bigger.

God I love Tom Atkins.

What everyone else said.

It would have done a lot better if it didn't have to follow in Michael's shoes, or mask. Ha ha. I liked it when I saw it, years ago. It's worth a watch. Don't think it I'll every buy it. The only ones worth having, IMO, are the original I and II. it's more like Creepshow than Halloween.

I always wondered why they never went back and removed the Halloween name from this movie and made adjustments to the sequence #'s for the other Michael Myers Halloween movies. I have watched Season of the Witch several times and each time i see just how bad it really is.

Yea I always loved Halloween III even when it came out. I wasnt mad at, but I did wonder why they would call it Halloween without Mike being involved. It was still a good horror film and I have it recorded in HD and will probably watch it tomorrow night along with part II!! Got Em!!

I just recently saw The Thing for the first time and I loved it, so I rented the original Halloween. I watched it tonight and wasn't too impressed. I can clearly see why it's a classic, and how it would be enjoyable to watch when in the Halloween spirit, but IMO, it didn't hold up very well over the years.

I love the story though, how are the other Halloween movies? (not counting Zombie's versions)

Carpenter seems to love horror anthologies, as he's already done two or three for cable--
And that he picked his own personal influence, ie. the "Five Million Years to Earth" guy, to start his new project was an almost Spielbergian act of labor-of-love director-geekery.
A sharp eye can spot Kneale's contributions, but nobody blames him for taking his name off.

As for how Tommy Lee Wallace ended up taking the blame for directing, I suspect that to be another Director's Guild dodge (a la Tobe Hooper's name on "Poltergeist"), seeing as how Carpenter had already directed "The Thing" that year--
Otherwise, it's got Carpenter's DNA and fingerprints all over it, right down to the ghost-town sets, robotic zombies, and "stinger" ending.

It wasn't "The public demanded H4", it was the fact that the franchise was sold off, the title and sequel rights were bought up by Dimension, and...let's just say that they're weren't too imaginative about where to go with #4-6.
Don't blame Carpenter for a bunch of cheap fire-sale Franchise-vultures' goofs, any more than you can blame James Cameron for "Terminator Salvation".

If you look, one of the "guys in suits" looks just like Mr. Smith from the Matrix. I had to do a double take on that one.

Now that's a very debatable question but my favorite sequel is 4. Part 2 is a close 2nd though. The sequels that I really like are 2, 3, 4, 6, and RZH.
