I found a great gallery with a prewired setup ready for some Polk FXi's and I tried to PM the user florad but it seems he doesnt visit often, anyway..
for those of you with these types of speakers flush mounted to your walls is there room and/or clearance behind the speaker if I were to cut in a single gang box and mount the speaker so the box is direcly behind the speaker, therefore the speaker covers the box opening? And still utilize a direct connect to the speaker? When the prewire and install of my theatre comes I will definately need to cut out a single gang, add a mudring and cover plate with a hole in it for each speaker location so what I need is to be able to cover the opening with the speaker and still be able to connect the speaker wire to it. Thanks! |

yes there is room behind my speakers for a wall plate. i did not use wall plates, instead i used a hole saw and cut 2inch holes then fished the wires to the holes. it can be tricky finding the right spot on the wall for wall plates because you have to get the speaker mounts into a stud all while being able to cover the wall plates. good luck

Thats where I was going, is there room for a box and if I used a remodel box would that be secure enough to mount the speaker from? Im looking into the Synergy S2 and they have a keyhole mount and weigh about 7lbs. Or would they need to be mounted from a stud and is there enough clearance for both? |

as long as your careful and measure then remeasure... no reason why you should have any problems. i would highly recommend mounting to a stud. find the stud you want to attach to then cut a small hole just next to it then gradually make the hole bigger until you can get a wall plate on. or if you are a renter then just use a big ass hammer and some railway spikes

I had my FXi3's mounted on wall plugs. I did not hit a stud when mounting them. Additionally, I used a remodel single gang open back box. I found there to be plenty of room for the wire to be direct connected.
If you took a hole saw, you could cut a hole right behind the binding posts and use banana plugs if you wanted to, they would go into the wall some, but the speakers are close enough that you would not see any of it. |
