Default BD Cleaning

With so many Netflix and Blockbuster rentals having smudges, fingerprints, etc. is there a good product to clean them before playing?

do not use anything like windex, it will strip the hardcoat

diluted alcohol and a soft clean t-shirt should work fine

Thanks. So I shouldn't use a micro fiber cloth.

I usually get by with running them under cool water for a while, touching them lightly with a clean cloth, and then maybe drying them ever-so-carefully with a soft cloth.

I've used windex before. Oops. Never saw a problem, but doesn't mean it's ok.

I usually just blow some hot breath on them and wipe 'em on my shirt.

Anything that's good for LCD type screens should be find. Most important is soft and lint free

It sounds like the reference is strictly about smears and smudges (finger oils and whatnot). It isn't about physical damage. No matter what the condition of the disc itself, if there is something to interfere with the light of the laser penetrating to the inner core of the disc then it doesn't matter what type of protection hardcoating is on the disc. With the same amount of fingerprints and smudges on an HD-DVD or SDVD disc the same problems will occur. This topic has nothing to say for the pros and cons of either format.

It might be a bit off-topic, but does anybody know if a DVD cleaning dic is gentle enough to use in a PS3?

I usually just blow some hot breath on them and then wipe using a soft (old, well worn) cotton T-shirt. Have not seen any visible scratches from this maneuver.

I bought the cleaning kit for dvds / ps games at bestbuy for 15$(edit: actually I think its 9.99 now) comes with a spray and a disk tray you stick the movie/game in and move a padded washer around to clean it ... not that ive needed it for blu-rays since mine have always gone in the player than into the disk box
