Default How does a firm ware get updated if a player has no ethernet port

how does it get updates then??

the guy at best buy told me that if i don't update my ps3's firm ware every month it will crash and i will never be able to use it. that doesnt sound true but is it?

The PS3 will not crash if you don't have the latest firmware. Those guys from BB will say anything to try and sell you useless junk. Firmwares are just needed to either add new feature like more backwards compabilty, dvd upcomversion, or firmwares can be added to address some issues (Early buyers reported that some BD movies froze during playback but the issue was addressed quickly).

That guy needs to be shot(figuratively speaking of course). Does that answer your question?

A couple months ago I bought Oblivion and when I first put it in I got a message saying that the system needs an updated firmware to play the game. At the time I did not have access to the internet to update my firmware. The update was on the game itself though so I was able to download it from that, instead of the internet.
