Default Finished for now. . . Onkyo S6200

Well, I went ahead and took the plunge today. After thinking through the ideas here and elsewhere, I felt like Buridan's Ass.

So, I purchased the Onkyo HT-S6200. Got it from newegg.com for 479.99USD shipped. Here is my meager/beginner setup, awaiting arrival of the HTIB.
So here is what I have:
Vizio SV420M HDTV
Sony BDP-S360
Onkyo HT-S6200

I also have a sort of HTPC:
HP Pavilion Elite e9120y (AMD Phenom ll X4 910 CPU w/Blu-ray ROM onboard)
Gateway 2201HD Monitor
Logitech Z-2300 Speakers (2:1 THX Cert.)

Thoughts?

It's a great start, have fun setting it up and watching all your blus again.

Onkyo definitely offers the best HTIB packages. Congrats and welcome to a world of addiction.

Thanks everyone!

As for the upgrade bug. . . LOL! You are so right. I just have to realize that all of this has been bought in the last ~7 weeks. I am now BROKE. It is time to set it up and enjoy. Hey guys, I know it's not top end stuff but I also know that I enjoy the PC immensely and the HDTV picture, with DirecTV H20 box (1080i), has what to me is a remarkable picture- and the Blu-rays on the PC or HDTV look GREAT. So, I must be happy and save my dollars

Take your time, post some pictures, and enjoy your set up. There is always time and money later to upgrade if you do so choose. I had and Onkyo SP 908 for about two years until just recently. I had tons of fun with it.

Well, I have the Onkyo S6200 set up. Seems to work fine. Now I am madly purchasing Blu-rays, LOL!

I wonder if/when the older films will get the blu-ray treatment? I have read that even the old films can be greatly enhanced by this. The explanation was somewhat cryptic but. . . Thoughts?

BTW: I can recommend the Onkyo HT-S6200. At the price point it is remarkable. The receiver seems to be the real value.

Thumbs up Onkyo HT-S6200

Just make sure to replace that thin speaker wire with something a little thicker - I recommend at least 16 gauge, but 14 gauge would be even better. You can purchase this in bulk at www.monoprice.com . Just estimate how many feet you will need and order it by the roll. Have fun with your new toys !! Oh, by the way, sports are great in surround sound !!

I have a question , for anyone that has the 6200 , is there anyway to calibrate the speakers ? because by mistake I misplaced the audyssey thing and now I can't find it so don't know how to calibrate them?

where can I buy this separate?

anyways without calibrating , my living room is loving it so imagine lol ill post some pictures later.

oh and 2nd question...is it me or I feel the blu rays used to look better connected directly from the ps3 to the TV than with the receiver? I feel I'm seen more grains now , was watching transformers today and the dark knight...don't know why , maybe I have to setup something?

Thanks in advance and happy thanksgiving!

i think you can order another cal. mic Shop Onkyo. my brother has the 6200, i'll ask him later this morning, about the ps3 issues, since that's his primary blu. we usually go "toy" shopping on fridays. i think he eventually did an "ear" cal. either way it still sounds great. made me go out & piece together my system. i originally wanted the 6200 myself.

.
it was never the films that needed to be enhanced it was everything on the consumer end. 1080p is the closest resoultion we have to film.

So I have become aware of. I have put some real in understanding this issue of late.

Bought a Mits HC3800 projector today. It's Ramen noodles for the next month.

Smile Starter kit

Hey guys I am new here. What would you recommend for a starter Home theater setup? Should I use the same? I am hoping for a low budget but upgradeable stuff. Love watching movies.

Onkyo was my first htib and i loved it. It now serves me inside the garage. I have had 3 Onkyo receivers since then. So i say go for the best Onkyo you can afford. Hell my first had a passive sub and it still rocked.

Question about the mic set up. Last night I watched transformers 2 and the bass was shaking the couch. Today I did the mic set up and don't feel any bass. Is there a reason for this or did I do the set up wrong? Any help is appreciated.
