Default New 2 channel LSi9 set up

Just finished setting up a 2 channel stereo music arrangement for my den. I have been working on this for a while and just finshed it a few days ago. I went with a set of Polk LSi9's in cherry finish on Sanus 24 inch cherry finish stands. I am using a previously retired Onkyo TX-SR806 as a preout and an Emotiva UPA-2 4ohm, 185 x 2 watt amp. I hooked up a Wadia 170i to the digital input on my AVR and download all of my iTunes in Apple lossless. I also hooked up an Oppo disk player for CD's and SACD's. I tried connecting a small Polk Micropro sub, but ended up putting it back in the closet. The LSi9's sounded better without it.

I know there are fancier and much more expensive true audiophile set ups out there. But I had to share how pleased I am with this set up. I think the speakers do an absolutely great job. Today, I walked into the room and my wife had the system on playing classical piano. I was absolutely sure it was my daughter actually playing the piano. But it was the speakers. The realistic sound creation is amazing to me. The little speakers also do a super job of producing bass which is completely convincing for music listening. The combination of the Polks, the Emotiva, the digital Wadia and the lossless Apple files all combine to make a very, very enjoyable listening experience.

So for what it's worth, just thought I would share my impressions.

Sounds awesome, I just missed a great deal on the same speakers a few months back. Between your HT and 2-channel setup you certainly have quite the collection going for yourself (not to mention the Z06). And definitely post some pics.

Another 2-channel aficionado! Well done and congrats on your new setup. You obviously took great care in assembling the various components.

Enjoy the music!!!!

those speakers are beautiful. based on the pictures you have put up, do you sit on the couch with the speakers on each side of you (and how does that sound) or do you sit opposite of that couch facing the speakers directly and if so, how does that sound?

I have my Lazy Boy sitting directly across from the couch. So, the main seat is centered between the speakers across from the couch. It really sounds great. I have also tried it setting on the couch. It then sounds like the sound is originating on the opposite side of the room. The speakers are very detailed and realistic. I simply can't say enough good things about them.

As far as comparing them to my RTi A7's in the HT room.... I do just simply like the towers for movies and I am completely satisfied with my HT set up. HOWEVER.... if you had your entire HT surround system set up with the LSi9's and the appropriate center channel, and an adequate sub with good SPL for movies.... and adequate 4ohm power.... I am sure the LSi9's would really rock in a HT environment. Again, I think the LSi9's are completely adequate for music without a sub. They do an amazing job with bass for a bookshelf speaker. But for big time movie action, you would need a big time sub. If I did not have so much already invested in my current HT equipment, I would be very tempted to go that way.

Default Polk Music...

I agree that LSi9s sound great. I employ a pair as front left and right for HT/music purposes as part of a 7.1 set up. I have them bi-amped with an Onkyo 805 for the highs and an Adcom GFP-7607 for the mids. That ring radiator tweeter is sweet.
