Default Is walmart's imax version of transformers 2 optional?

The only place convenient for me to buy blu-rays around here is walmart

I heard they exclusively got rights to an imax version of the movie, however i heard its the same as the dark knight, where its mostly 2.35:1 with the imax scenes mixed in

personally thats what made me HATE the dark knight on blu-ray, and i have no desire to see alternating aspect ratios

if you buy transformers at walmart, is it guaranteed to be this imax version, or do they have multiple versions for sale

also, can you turn off the imax parts or is it like the dark knight

i might just drive the extra 45 minutes to get it at best buy or something

thanks

Not sure but I think the Imax version is the only version Walmart sells. I havent seen the regular version there.

No you can't turn off the Imax parts.

They are selling 1 & 2 packaged together, but I have no idea if that's the Wal-Mart exclusive though. Otherwise just order it online or drive elsewhere.

Still can't believe that you hated the effect though. Sure if it gets overused it'd be annoying but thus far DK is one of my favorite flicks.

There is more than 1 minute of IMAX footage. It's just that it's extended by one minute (which is a few seconds here and there throughout the film).

There is only 40 seconds of ADDITIONAL footage but 8 mins of Imax footage that changes aspect ratios. Personally I think the changing aspect ratios is the best part, but if someone hates that aspect they should know exactly how much there is.

The changing aspect ratios in The Dark Knight doesn't bother me as much as the blatant DNR and EE on the non-IMAX scenes. The image on display through 90% of the film is god awful (IMHO) by comparison. Especially so considering the first 5 minutes or so look fantastic, and you expect it to look that way for the whole movie. There is not nearly as much difference in Transformers 2. The non-IMAX scenes look great in their own right, which is more than can be said about The Dark Knight's non-IMAX scenes. If the alternating aspect ratio bothers you, then order the standard version online. Either way, you're getting one heckuva good looking (and sounding!) movie.

There's no way there's 8 minutes of 16:9 footage in the "Big Screen" Blu-Ray. I remember maybe 2-3 minutes tops.

when i was in walmart i only saw the IMAX edition. the IMAX scenes in TF2 look much better than the ones in the TDK and the rest of the movie is reference grade. the IMAX version of TF2 is the most impressive blu-ray i've ever seen

OP- In regards to TDK, there is only one version available and it includes the IMAX scenes. There is no way to watch the film without the IMAX scenes. Certain scenes were shot in IMAX. The screen changing did anger some people but the majority doesn't care.

Transformers has 2 versions. Walmart is only carrying the IMAX one. It is exclusive only to Walmart. I'd suggest ordering the regular version non-IMAX from Best Buy or Amazon. That way you won't have the aspect ratio change.

I hope that cleared up the confusion.

i know but people told me i wouldnt notice the aspect ratio changes to the dark knight but i did

i dont know why but it totally pulled me out of the movie, it sounds so weird

i mean, unless you have an imax screen in your living room, whats the benefit of having these scenes on blu ray

Personally I didn't find them distracting at all, but that's just me. I actually had to watch TDK and TF2 a couple of times each before I even noticed some of the scenes.

i only noticed at the begining (in TDK). I'm incapable to tell you which are the IMAX scenes in The Dark Knigh, although i have seen it more than 5 times in BD. I only remember the flying shots with buildings.
I totally want the IMAX version of Transformers.

I saw The Dark Knight at an IMAX theater and the aspect ratio shift was no more distracting on my TV than it was in the theater and vice versa.

That's because you get totally immersed in the TDK's story and forget anything about shifting. I don't know why Transformers shot parts on IMAX anyway, it was like 5 minutes total. The forest fight and a few shot's here and there at the end.

Man...I thought this issue had been settled. The difference is dialnorm (4 db). Turn up the volume 4 db and it's the same.

Agreed. I don't think this is correct, and certainly isn't on my copy. Admittedly in another thread it was mentioned that Bill Hunt had an inquiry in with the studios, but no response as yet.
