Default Holiday Upgrade!

Hi all, i really want to upgrade my speakers, but I dont know what to get, I guess im kinda on a budget, but i could always upgrade one by one until its complete. Im thinking the best route would be to upgrade the fronts, and then center and so on...

Right now I have an:

Onkyo 706 receiver
PS3 Blu-ray player
Speaker are HTIB Yamaha YHT-390 http://http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/productdetail.html?CNTID=567702&CTID=5000800

I guess what would be a huge upgrade but not to spendy

You can start with these...just my two cents...Polks or Energy are good starter speakers.

Good entry level speakers are the Polk Monitor speakers. Newegg.com usually has some very good deals on them so you can pick them up cheap. Also keep an eye on craigslist and ebay as you can sometimes get a diamond in the rough on both of those.

The best Monitors for entry level are a CS2 center and 2 Monitor 50s (they can be re-purposed for surrounds as you expand getting better fronts.)

Edit: See, great minds think alike.

If you have time, take a trip down to a local audio store and spend a few hours listening before doing a blind buy. Just my 2 cents and good luck.

Cheers.

If you can afford it, never hurts to go bigger. As you will probably kick yourself for getting the smaller ones later on.

For 20$ you get an extra 5.25" driver, which allows the tower to go a little bit lower bass-wise if they are set to large (ie. stereo). If you listen to music at all it will make a difference, and would be worth the 40$ for both.

They also seem to have a better sensitivity (1db, not a huge difference), and are able to handle more power.

Thats a good question.

I personally have never ordered something from newegg that was considered a bulk item, only computer parts. So, I have no personal experience with it. Hopefully someone that has ordered a large tv or speakers will chime in here and give you their opinion.

I did find this:
Quote:
Bulk Item Return Policy
Return for refund within: non-refundable unless shipment is refused
Return for replacement within: non-replaceable
This is our Detailed Bulk Item Return Policy. Bulk Items (including but not limited to such items as Air Conditioners, Televisions larger than 37 inches, Home Entertainment Systems and Refrigerators) cannot be returned to Newegg.com for refund or replacement service. Therefore, you are urged to carefully examine the box your bulk item ships in before signing for the package. Should you observe any damage to the shipping box, or if the wrong product was sent, you must refuse delivery while the shipping courier is still on the premises. The item will be returned to Newegg.com and you will be refunded the full amount, including applicable shipping costs and tax.

If you determine upon inspection that the condition of the shipping box is satisfactory, an adult is required to sign the shipping courier's release form to complete delivery. By signing this release, you are acknowledging and agreeing to Newegg.com's Policy and Agreement, understanding that you cannot return the television to Newegg.com and that the condition of the delivery meets your expectations. After delivery, please read all included documentation and/or contact the manufacturer directly to determine applicable warranty coverage, if any.

AIT shipments require that shipping damage is reported within 48 HOURS of the product’s delivery.

The following conditions are not acceptable for return, and will result in the merchandise being returned to you:
Any LCD screen that has less than 8 dead pixels
Any item that is damaged due to neglect, abuse or misuse
Any item that is not in its original packaging with all accessories and manuals
Looks like you have to be home on the delivery day and inspect it before you sign, otherwise it looks like you are SoL.

You would have a 5 year warranty from Polk Audio.

I leave that for you to decide. Try to find a dealer nearby that has some Polk's and take your favorite CD along. If you like them, then it's a easy decision.

the monitor 60 are very good for its price. i got them for 150 each and they are worth every penny. sometimes they get as low as 120 each. and the cs2 are also a great center but it does not match the monitor 60 drivers. cs2 has larger drivers then the 60s. i have both the 60s and cs2 and i can say they work well together. these were upgraded from my polk rm6750 and i love these speakers. GREAT speakers u wont regret buying them!!!

The CS2 or CS1, they will timbre-match the 60's fine. The better deal is on the CS2, plus most of the movie's audio comes from the center channel due to the dialogue, so don't skimp here, go a bit bigger and get the CS2. It's at a great price right now of $149.99 on NewEgg. They have free shipping (shipping is actually quite fast with NewEgg) and no tax also!

Both of these center speakers are sort of large, so I am not sure of where you plan to put this speaker, but keep in mind how big they are if you plan to use some kind of TV or AV stand.
