PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system owners, the wait is almost over! Soon you too can run, jump and bend time, as Hothead Games announced today that it will be digitally delivering Jonathan Blow's Braid to the PlayStation Network in North America on Nov. 12 with a European version to be announced shortly thereafter.
Explore the human condition and manipulate time as our hero Tim leaps onto the PlayStation Network in the lush, painterly world of Braid, a puzzle-platformer that takes you from a house in the city on a journey through a series of worlds to solve puzzles and rescue the princess. In each world, you have a different power to affect the way time behaves, including the ability to rewind, create parallel realities and utilize time dilation to overcome the many obstacles in your path. There is no filler in this game; every puzzle shows you something new and interesting about the game world. Key Features: * Untraditional platforming. You can never die and never lose, but challenge is always present and focused on solving puzzles, rather than forcing you to play and replay tricky jumps. * Puzzle-rich environment. Travel through a series of worlds, searching for puzzle pieces and solving puzzles by manipulating time: rewinding, creating parallel universes and setting up pockets of dilated time. The game play is always fresh and new and the puzzles inspire new ways of thinking. * Aesthetic design. A painterly art style and lush, organic soundtrack complement the unique game play. * Nonlinear story. A nonlinear fiction links the various worlds and provides real-world metaphors for your time manipulations; act out these themes at your own pace, exploring playful "what if" universes. * Forgiving game play. The game doesn't force you to solve puzzles in order to proceed. If you can't figure something out, just play onward and return to that puzzle later. http://www.gaming-age.com/news/2009/11/4 DAY 1 PURCHASE! |

I did a little searching and the native resolution of the art assets for Braid were made for 1280x720 resolution. I'm guessing 1080p support is simply upscaled... I sincerely doubt Jonathan Blow went back and redid his artwork just to create a PSN release.

I've been playing Braid. Really fantastic game so far. I've "solved" worlds 2 through 4 and played through 5 and 6. What's pretty cool about the game is I'll try to tackle a puzzle piece for a while, fail, then shut off the game. Then my mind will continue to work on possible solutions, until something pops into my head. And it'll be just obvious "Oh yeah, that's what I was supposed to do!" That's happened with three different difficult pieces so far. It's rare that a game will set your mind percolating like that.

I'm about as far in as you; worlds 2-4 solved. 5 and 6 are full of stumpers though.

I solved World 5 and have one more piece to get in World 6 now... and this morning the mind was percolating and I think I figured it out. I'm buzzing right now... wanna go home and try my new theory. But I'm about 95% certain I know what to do. It's the one where you drop the ladder down from the sky that's just a bit too short to reach the ledge to its left. I was hammering at that one for a good 30 minutes last night. I had everything timed down perfectly for an approach I tried and no matter how perfectly it was executed I was just a bit too slow. I've found in this game if it looks like you're a nanosecond off you're probably doing it the wrong way, and it's time to rethink. Almost every real solution has been fairly forgiving when it comes to timing.

I love this game! So beautiful!
There's only two games that I've been provoked to referring to as beautiful from the PSN. Flower and now Braid. I'm tempted to throw Linger in Shadows in there as well, but for right now Flower & Braid are a notch above everything else in my book when it comes to graphics, music, and just all around coolness! |
