Peter Bracke review
Quote:
So, FLAWLESS encodings are no longer permitted the flawless rating?! Peter remains one of those reviewers who insists on transfering movie issues into the PQ rating Gary Last edited by dialog_gvf; 07-20-2007 at 03:49 PM. |

I find it odd that a bd movie can be perfect yet not get a perfect score from Mr. Bracke . It would have been out of the ball park had it been a hd dud. Seems all Sony can do with all its releases is 4.5 stars. We know the truth and thats all that matters.

I think if someone is judging the video quality of a movie then they actually have to judge the video quality, not just the encode quality. If a movie does not step up to the plate with outstanding colors and some good shadowy scenes that push the ability of a display, then it's never more than something that would be average. I would expect as things move forward and we see more and more excellent encodes that we will see video quality actually drop across the board as a shift from 'really perfect encoding' swings to 'really perfect encoding plus top notch video to highlight the encoding' as the five star requirement.
Please remember, moving forward the encodes will only improve and for the most part encoding quality has pretty much been dropped as a talking controversy between the two formats. Instead, the discussion has shifted to mroe trivial issues. In the future, there will be very little to discuss as flaws with the technology or even players themselves. They will all support all video and audio codecs, 1080p, and HDMI 1.3 with other features not yet dreamed up. |

Another higher bit rate encoding AVC from Sony as usually
link: http://www.hometheaterspot.com/fusio...hp?tid/138008/ Video: "This is Sony’s usual no holds barred BD presentation, compressed using high bitrate AVC. Grain appears to be preserved faithfully. It conveys the natural look of film without excess from exaggerated edge contrast, bit starvation, and without looking synthetic at any time. The photography preserves a bright, natural dynamic with plenty of eye appeal during the day" Audio: "The film sounds incredible at 16 bit PCM" Link: http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=29564 Video: "Here we get a fantastic video transfer with some incredible detail. The blacks are great, the dark areas are really nice and keep their detail well, and grain is only present once and a while. The skin tones are spot on and the colors pop with great vibrancy. Unfortunately for "Perfect Stranger" the movie isn't near as good as the video transfer is. At least it is pleasing to the eyes" Last edited by Scorxpion; 08-06-2007 at 11:01 AM. |

I just saw the trailer at imdb.com and at the 2:01 mark, Bruce Willis is kneeling down shirtless, displaying a tattoo; all this while Halle Berry is in front of him. The background seems that a window of a condo. At the 2:07 mark, Willis is looking up at Halle Berry. None of these scenes are on the Blu ray. Does anyone know why?
