Default Yogi Bear Review Thread

Quote:
Entertainment Weekly has learned that Anna Faris, Dan Aykroyd, and Justin Timberlake are in talks to star in the hybrid live-action/computer animated feature based on the Hanna-Barbera cartoon Yogi Bear. The big screen 3D movie is being directed by Eric Brevig (Journey to the Center of the Earth), from a screenplay by Brad Copeland (Wild Hogs). What characters will Faris, Aykroyd and Timberlake play? Details after the jump.

* Faris will play a live-action character named Rachel, a nature documentary filmmaker who is trying to film Yogi and Boo-Boo for her next project.
* Aykroyd will voice the computer animated Yogi, the lovable Jellystone Park bear who is notorious for his attempts at stealing picnic baskets from campers, much to the displeasure of Park Ranger Smith.
* Timberlake will voice the computer animated Boo-Boo, a bow-tied bear cub who acts as Yogi’s constant companion and conscience.

Park Ranger Smith has yet to be cast, but I assume he would be played live-action.Lets just hope someone like Will Ferrell doesn’t fall for this paycheck trap. The film will begin filming next month in New Zealand . Warner Bros is aiming for a December 17th 2010 release.

...wow

Don't like Justin Timberlake, but Dan Aykroyd as Yogi will be Oscar material!

Hey, if they can do Scooby Doo & Garfield, why not Yogi?

Cannot wait to hear Aykroyd say;

I'm smarter than the average bear!
This should be fun as I loved the cartoons.

Because Scooby-Doo and Garfield sucked.

Scrappy was the bad guy? Terrible.

Have you seen Zombieland? Even Bill Murray says he regrets doing Garfield.

Garfield wasn't that bad. It was your typical kids film, which isn't always a bad thing.

Only problem--BIG problem--is...it's Warner.
Who still hasn't gotten those obessive 90's-CN Hanna-Barbera-bashing grudges out of their bloodstream yet (even just saying the words "Ranger Smith" seemed to give Craig McCracken conniption twitches) and thinks they have to kiss up slacker pop-snarky cartoon deconstruction just to get an audience.
Which is how we got two Scooby-Doo movies in the first place.

(Actual cartoon fans know how to appreciate Yogi for his own cool groove, though:

I find it unexpectedly hilarious that this is being made into a movie at all. I'll admit, I laughed hysterically for two minutes after reading the title.

ast month when I posted the last casting update for the hybrid live-action/computer animated feature based on the Hanna-Barbera cartoon Yogi Bear, I wondered if Park Ranger Smith would be included in the film, as he had yet to be mentioned. Variety now has word that Tom Carvanagh (Ed) has joined the cast, and will be playing Ranger Smith.

Carvanagh will play the live-action lead, and romantic interest of another live-action character named Rachel (Anna Faris), a nature documentary filmmaker who is trying to film Yogi and Boo-Boo for her next project. Dan Aykroydwill voice the computer animated Yogi, the lovable Jellystone Park bear who is notorious for his attempts at stealing picnic baskets from campers, much to the displeasure of Park Ranger Smith. And Justin Timberlake will voice the computer animated Boo-Boo, a bow-tied bear cub who acts as Yogi’s constant companion and conscience.

The film also features T.J. Miller (Hud from Cloverfield) as Ranfer Jones, a comic relief character. Miller auditioned for the role by recording a video with a real life bear. The reel made it all the way to Barry M. Meyer, chairman of Warner Bros. Miller was offered the role shortly thereafter. Watch that video and find out more here.

The big screen 3D movie is being directed by Eric Brevig (Journey to the Center of the Earth), from a screenplay by Brad Copeland (Wild Hogs). The film is currently filming in New Zealand . Warner Bros is aiming for a December 17th 2010 release.

Thumbs down

Justin Timberlake voicing Boo-Boo. WTF?

My big question is: What side of Timberlake will we get? The token whiteboy Timberlake? Or, the "trying to be hip-hop while being interviewed on MTV Timberlake"? (those of you who've seen different interviews with him over the years will know what I mean) Hmm......

Is the author implying that this movie isn't up to Will Ferrell's standards.

This movie could be enjoyable. I liked "Rocky and Bullwinkle".

Even the talent of Farris won't be enough to prevent failure. Why? One reason: Dan Aykroyd. It's no coincidence the only good movie he's been in had him saying almost nothing. That kid is poison, unfunny poison.
