I haven't seen it either, but I'm a little apprehensive about it. I absolutely love the story and have many versions. From the reviews it sounds like the look is great and the ghostly elements are spooky, but that it's larded up with needless action sequences. Scrooge in space? A big chase sequence with a tiny Scrooge?

I'll see it and I hope for the best, but it sounds like a missed oportunity to do a truly great/accurate version of the story. After all, what better way to portray the more bizarre elements of the story than with animation?

Yeah, I like the story allot this is something that doesn't need all kinds of jazz to be a good movie. The story is already perfectly laid out lol.

I watched the movie on opening day and I think it is pretty darned good, and, more importantly, true to the spirit of Dickens' original.

While it may not replace the 1951 Alistair Sim version as the definitive film adaptation of the novel, it is still pretty entertaining, and has some inventive visual sequences (which, imho, were necessary to make it a more cinematic experience).

I'm not a Jim Carrey fan, and I've yet to see a Zemekis mo-cap movie. So I wasn't all that excited about going to see this. But I've read a handful of reviews that have me more intrigued about at least checking it out. So I'm at least up to 50/50 than a flat out "no". But I could still just wait until the BD comes out, and even then I might just rent it. So maybe it's actually more 40/60.

Did you watch it in IMAX 3D? If so, how was it.

I'm with BluBonnet on this one. We just got back from taking my 7 year old daughter to see it and I was thoroughly impressed. I'm a nut for this story and was really very happy with the adaptation. The dialogue is authentic and I can forgive the chase scene simply because it was so nicely animated.

I saw it in IMAX (lite) 3D! It was very good IMO. It did a very good job of being accurate, while adding new value to the story through interpretation and a few added sequences. It did a very good job of telling the events and the acting was phenomenal!
The IMAX was great, although it wasn't an IMAX format screen, merely an IMAX co made screen. It might have been the right width, but it was not tall like an IMAX screen, it was Widescreen. It had the strangest 3D glasses. At first, I thought they were polarized as normal, but then when I got into the theater, they looking green and magenta! It ends up, when the 3D actually started, they put a filter over the projections that either removed the colors, or (more likely) reflected off the surface in such a way that the color effect was gone (in other words, the chromatic effect I saw was a result of a 2D image from a cheap projector running the ads reflecting off the special surface of the screen which made it look green and magenta, but once the right projector was on it was perfect).
I was impressed with this movie, and the graphics were great.

How does it hold up to the 1951 one with Alistair Sim?

I personally loved this movie. The visuals and 3D were amazing, I couldn't stop smiling through the whole movie. The acting was awesome. At times it did get a little slow and boring, but that didn't really last to long. All in all it was a good experience.

Thanks for the review while I probably won't see it, since I haven't been to a movie theater in years. I will watch and day 1 it on blu-ray.

I just watched it yesterday in 3-D...

First thing I would say about it -- I was actually surprised by how much it stayed aligned with the '51 version (which I watched the night before - the still unsurpassed version). I swear, the first 2/3 of the movie, even with all its technology, was almost a shot-for-shot remake. This is not a putdown by the way -- I thought it played excellently. Jim Carrey was wonderful (the entire cast was actually) and some of the visuals were truly awe-inspiring.

However, the last 1/3 of the movie, after he meets the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, the film completely goes of the rails and becomes a thrill ride, with a miniature Scrooge being chased through the streets of London. I wouldn't have minded a short sequence, but that entire segment of the film was completely frenetic -- kind of jarring from the well-paced segments before it. Also, (without giving anything away) the ending feels a bit rushed and ends in a place that I really didn't suspect. I thought there should have been one or two more scenes at the end where we get a real emotional impact, but they weren't there. I'd still recommend it to people for that wonderful first 2/3rds, the gorgeous visuals and Jim Carrey's performance.

Quick note: I don't think the 3-D really added anything to it. Nice to have seen it that way, but doesn't make things pop like, say, CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS.

One last thing...NOT FOR LITTLE KIDS!!! Some VERY SCARY visuals -- especially with Marley's ghost. In fact, a kid started crying in the theater and his mother had to take him out. Others might disagree (I don't have any kids! :-) ).

Which is Carrey's better X-mas film in your opinion? This one or The Grinch. I've yet to see it.
