Is it okay to put my Blu-Ray player ontop of my Receiver if my Blu-Ray player doen't block most of the ventilation holes, only around the first inch of them. I have the receiver that came with my Sony HT-SS360 home theater system and a Sony N460 Blu-Ray player and the Blu-Ray player block some of the ventilation holes on this receiver? However it does look nice when it's ontop of my receiver.

Receivers generate considerable heat. I would avoid placing anything on top of it, specially another electronic device.

I wouldn't put anything on top of it even if it isn't blocking any vents. Heat from your reciever can mess up your bd player, plus if your bd player generates heat that can just make it a whole lot worse.

I have a receiver with heat sinks on top, which are hot enough to almost fry an egg, when running full. I would not recommend putting a BD player on top of a receiver, and cooking it.

I wouldn't recommend it either. If you decide to do it anyway, the use of some fans to move hot air away from your components would be in order.

If you absolutely had to stack something on top of a receiver, I'd recommend using something like this to provide a thermal separation between the two units. It adds some height, though, so just adding a shelf between the two may work just equally well for less money.

Don't place anything on your receiver, that's clear.
What everyone here says is RIGHT, but is not entirely accurate, as it would not really fry your BD player.

I have a Sony BDP-550 bluray player sitting on top of my STR-DB940 receiver for months now. Before I had the much bigger BDP-S500 which now sits on another machine. And before that another one and so on etc etc , since I bought the receiver back in 2001.

BUT,

in our house we use this receiver in average 10 hours / week (music or movie)

the master volume was not higher 2 out of 10. I believe that a receiver develops more heat at higher volumes, but I might be wrong here.

I made everytime possible to have free at least like 30% of the ventilation surface of the receiver.

This receiver NEVER let me down. 7 Sony machines are hooked to it.

And again, don't put anything on top of YOUR receiver.

My S350 has been sitting on my Sony Receiver for almost a year. No heat issues whatsoever. Just be sure that your area is well ventilated and you have enough cool air flowing over your devices.

Just to add my 2 cents here...I spoke to a tech at Onkyo USA yesterday. He said their receivers should have at least 8" of "air" above them. He stated receivers run 80-90 degrees above ambiant room tempature. So...avoid placing anything on top.

I would put it on a different shelf. But I gotta ask why do companies advertise their amps/BD players with pictures of the BD player sitting on top of the amp?
