Default HDMI Splitter?

I am in the process of buying and setting up my first projector. I would like to somehow split the HDMI signal coming from my receiver so that I can send it to either my tv, or to the projector. Since the projector screen hangs in front of the TV I do not need or want them to both be on at the same time. One other thing to note is that my TV is 720p/1080i and my projector will be 1080P. I have seen plenty of switches but they all offer multiple inputs and only one output. I need one input and two outputs. I see on ebay you can purchase a simple "Y" splitter. Is this all I need? Can someone suggest something to me? Inexpensive would be nice but I'm more concerned with avoiding any HDMI "handshake" issues.

Here's on from Monoprice many here I think have been using. Can't beat the price
http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

As an alternative but much more expensive is this:
http://www.xpcgear.com/hdmimx32.html

probably overkill though since it has a repeater/signal booster and comes with remote. Good luck.

PS. I bought the Apogee 3x2 switch before Monoprice offered any type of HDMI splitter. I can vouch for it and that it comes with an IR remote (programmable on Harmony remote). I still think it is overkill though and would go with the cheaper Mono one.

I have a screen in front of my TV as well. Although my TV is 1080p and my pj is only 720p, both displays shows an incredible picture with this HDMI splitter. It is a bit pricey, at around $60, but it also has a built in repeater. This will help to keep the HDMI signal strong thru any kind of long cable run you may have. It is recommended that you have a repeater if your run is about 35' or more, but it can still help with lesser runs. It has one input and 2 outputs. I run 2 HDMI cables, one to the TV and the other to the pj and I think it was well worth the $$$ and has worked perfect since I got it.

Good luck!

Thanks guys, those are exactly what I was looking for. I think I will be ordering the cheaper of the two monoprices ones that were listed. I think that will do exactly what I want and the price is great (even with shipping to Canada)
