Default Cars re-release

Hey all, I have a quick question.

Does the cars re-release (with the collector toys) have a different audio track than the original release?

For some reason I keep thinking that it had an HD audio track while the original release did not.

The original release had LPCM 5.1 which was 24-bit lossless sound. So .... no worries I am sure the re-release has the same audio.

According to the news article it features a DTS-HD audio track to replace the PCM on the original release.

So what happens if say you have a stand alone blu ray player and your audio is set to output as bitstream, but your blu ray disc's only lossless track is PCM? Do you have to change your players settings to output PCM, or will it playback the PCM without having to do anything?

Bitstreaming simple sends the audio to your receiver to decode. So if your receiver has HDMI and TrueHD & DTS-MASTER decoding, it will definitely be able to decode LPCM.

The PCM setting simply converts the audio track (TrueHD, DTS-MASTER) to LPCM and sends to the receiver as LPCM.

In either case it doesn't matter which setting you use, you will get lossless sound.

Yes, I know my reciever will be able to decode the PCM no problem, just wondered how the player's bitstream setting would be affected by a PCM only track. I currently use a PS3 or my htpc for blu ray playback, and both are only able to output PCM.

The news article is (was) incorrect....or perhaps the original press release was incorrect...either way, the Cars re-release still features the same PCM audio track as before, they did NOT replace it with a DTS-HD MA track....
