I'm wondering, does anyone know how good the quality will be on this Blu Ray release? Like, comparing it to other 1980's films put onto Blu Ray.
I'm only asking as I can't see a film that old transferring well over to Blu Ray, seeing as they probably used 16mm film, which If I recall is too small for HD? Should I just stick to the original DVD's and upscale em? |

They didn't use 16mm film.

Do we think it'l get the same updated quality or not? I only ask as I need to replace my DVD's since a friend scratched them to buggery. Wondering if I just buy the DVD's or wait for the Blu Ray release.

Yeah could wait and see I suppose. 2010 I'm hearing? On a related note, will it have all the same bonus features as the DVD's? I'd hope so, what with the space on Blu Rays. Also I'm hoping they just update it to HD quality, not remastering the special effects. That'd be annoying.

And I don't think it's fair to compare it with Blade Runner. BTTF was shot spherically, so the grain would be more visible than on an anamorphic production like Blade Runner. I'm sure it will still look good, though. |

And there's nothing wrong with grain in my opinion. ![]() |

And no, they weren't shot on 16mm. And if they were, 16mm isn't "too small" for HD. |

They've already made the HD Masters for The Back To The Future Trilogy.
They are supposed to look amazing. |

Probably my favorite trilogy ever!
![]() I would imagine none of them will have reference-quality PQ, but I wouldn't doubt that they are going to be a significant step up from the DVDs. Grain is filmic, and I welcome it if it comes with the original image transfer. I would not be surprised if II and III (filmed together) will show an improvement over the first movie. |
